ACTIVITY 2: PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Group 1
Question:
Research about one (1) CPD Seminar that was conducted for Architects this year, 2024. How
many CPD points were earned by the Architects? What was the major area and the coverage of
the area? Why did you choose to feature this seminar? Why is it important?
“Harnessing Technology as a Tool of Humanity, Not Replacement”
United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) on August 10, 2024
The Continuing Professional Development CPD is an essential part of Professional Education
and Training that is used to continue learning after a certain profession takes a board exam and
is given a professional license. This kind of seminar continuously improves the competence of
the professionals in accordance with the international standards of practice such as technical
Group 1: Belen, Capunitan, Dela Luna, Ducay, Gallenero, Lacquio, Nitura, Ramiro
and design skills, sustainability, project management abilities and services in line with the
present time.
According to section 28, Article IV of the RA 9266;
● To promote public interest and to safeguard life, health and property, all practicing
architects shall maintain a program of continuing professional development.
● Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization shall have the responsibility of
developing a continuing professional development program for architects
● Other entities or organizations may become CPD providers upon accreditation by the
Board.
In compliance with this provision the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) was officially
accredited by the PRC on May 12, 1975 to handle the CPD for ongoing practices of architects
together with the Architecture Licensure Examination, framing ethical and professional
standards, and disciplinary action for them.
This research is about the Architectural CPD seminar managed by the officers of United
Architects of the Philippines (UAP): Professional Development Commission, on August 10, 2024
entitled “Harnessing Technology as a Tool of Humanity, Not Replacement”.
Along with 3 CPD points that provide professional advancement to the works of architects.
However, there are minor conditions to acquire it: “A strict no-show policy ” that barred the
registered person for next webinar and pay 100 pesos per CPD point if he/she failed to attend
without notifying the team at least 2 days before the event, as well as the attendance and one
email policy.
The event introduced experts: Architect Ivan Belaev and Visual Manager Jun Epifanio
Pangalilauan that focus on architectural design and sustainability, discussing how technology
can serve as an aid to human imagination in architectural practice rather than replace it.
Cutting-edge digital tools and artificial intelligence are discussed; they are ways of actually
improving procedures while retaining the design architect's distinct, intuitive style.
Coverage Area
The seminar "Harnessing Technology as a Tool of Humanity, Not Replacement" covers the
following key areas:
● Emerging Technologies in Architecture: AI, automation, and digital tools in the efficient
designing and construction of buildings. Artificial Intelligence, Automation, and Digital
Tools: Understanding how these flow into architectural workflows.
● Human-Centered Design Approaches: How technology can complement the creative
and intuitive aspects of architects' roles. Balancing technological innovation with the
creative and intuitive aspects of architects' roles.
Group 1: Belen, Capunitan, Dela Luna, Ducay, Gallenero, Lacquio, Nitura, Ramiro
● Ethical and Responsible Use of Technology: Guidelines for integrating technological
advancements while maintaining focus on human well-being and sustainability.
Responsible use of technology to ensure human well-being and professional relevance.
● Sustainability in Design: Leveraging technology to create environmentally responsible
and efficient built environments.
The seminar sought to enable architects to appropriately embrace innovative tools while
maintaining their essential function in designing places for human utilization.
UAP's continuous efforts to equip architects in an increasingly digital society included this
session. Instead of replacing human creativity, it was meant to inspire professionals to embrace
new technologies as instruments to enhance their ability to design spaces that satisfy human
needs. The event emphasizes the growing use of technology in architecture practice to keep
architects at the forefront of design innovation and decision-making.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE?
We chose this CPD seminar because it tackles the relevant topic of using technologies,
particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), as tools to enhance the architectural profession rather than
replace it. Addressing the common fear that AI might render architects obsolete, the webinar
clarified that these advancements should be embraced to improve efficiency, simplify processes,
and adapt to the profession's evolving nature. Watching the three-hour recorded session, we
found it highly beneficial as it reassured both architects and students like us that AI is not a
threat but a means to innovate and thrive in our field. The knowledgeable speakers, hailing from
technologically advanced regions, further emphasized the potential of AI to complement our
work, making this seminar an insightful and empowering experience for navigating the future of
architecture.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Importance of the seminar to the Community
It allows architects to address societal issues, as said in the seminar, AI cannot replace
professionals, specifically architects because being able to build a structure requires deep study
and ethical responsibility. It fosters engagement with local needs and solutions.
Importance of seminar to the Architecture students
Just like us, being able to watch this seminar on Facebook can help us to connect with the
professionals and mentors, and discern the topic. It serves as a stepping stone for architecture
students because we don't just learn only in school; the contribution of these recorded seminars
is also great for us who are seeking industry trends and innovation from the expert speakers.

We can not only use it for the thesis and other school purposes, but also in the future ahead of
us as [Link] this kind of seminar, we can improve our skills such as critical thinking,
effective communication, and presenting ideas. Listening to the seminar prepares us to make
socially responsible designs.
Importance of seminar to the researchers in Architecture field
“Harnessing Technology as a Tool of Humanity, Not Replacement” by UAP played an important
role in the professional development of architects. Architects are exposed to new ideas and
innovative approaches that adapt to the transformation of our society. This can also help
architects/experts to be informed, inspired, and be prepared to solve the problem that the
society is facing. Using AI in construction has a huge possibility that it may link to ethical
concerns, as AI lacks creativity, questionable practices, and unsafe situations.
Importance of the seminar to the Architects
Since it explores how technology is changing architecture and how it may complement experts
rather than replace them, the seminar we chose is important. It illustrates how design creativity,
efficiency, and sustainability may be enhanced by technology like AI, BIM, and 3D printing. By
focusing on ethical technology use, the seminar educates architects how to keep up with new
innovations while also valuing the human aspect of their work. This encourages creativity and
helps architects stay relevant in a field that is evolving quickly.
