String Auditions – Moderator Script

 As student enters, take their score sheet and write down their audition
number on your moderator worksheet (and the student sheet if it is
blank). This number is not to be shared with the judges, in order to
maintain anonymity amongst the auditioning students.
 For viola/cello/bass rooms, please tell students to audition in the
following order – Scales, solo 1, solo 2, sight reading.
 For the scale component, all moderators need to give 4 beats of the
metronome at the appropriate tempo (quarter note = 120)
 Bass scales are quarter note = 96
 Once the 2nd solo is completed, place the sight reading example on the
music stand and give students exactly 30 seconds before telling them
to begin.
 Escort the student out of the room, close the door and begin recording
scores from the judges on the student score sheets. Please total scores
by adding across and use a calculator if necessary.
 Place completed student score sheets face down so that they can be
collected periodically throughout the day.
 After all scores have been inputted, bring the next student into the
room and follow the exact same procedure.
 Please be sure that music is available for students to use if they do not
have their own copies -
