Engaging, Relevant, and Impactful Learning Experiences
That Empowered My Journey as a BSESS Student at PUP
My journey as a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science (BSESS) student at the
Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) has been filled with moments that shaped me
into who I am today. Although this course wasn’t my first choice, the experiences I’ve had and
the friendships I’ve formed along the way have given me reasons to stay and grow. These
moments, whether engaging, relevant, or impactful, have made my academic journey
meaningful and fulfilling.
One of the most exciting parts of my journey was being a facilitator for the Apolaki event last
year. As one of the facilitators, I was involved in managing the event, guiding participants, and
ensuring everything ran smoothly. It was an intense but fulfilling experience, where I learned
how to take responsibility and work with a team to execute a large-scale activity. The energy of
the event and the enthusiasm of everyone involved made it a truly memorable moment.
Another engaging experience was when I participated in our Team Sports subject’s sports
competition last school year. I joined my section’s volleyball team, and it wasn’t just about
playing the game—it was about bonding with my teammates, cheering each other on, and
celebrating every little win, whether we won or lost the match. It reminded me how teamwork
and sportsmanship can make even a simple competition so much more rewarding.
During our seminar for Physiology, I was a part of the Program and Certificate Committee. This
experience taught me the importance of preparation, attention to detail, and collaboration in
organizing an academic event. Being part of this committee helped me see the practical side of
what we learn in class and how it applies to real-life situations. It felt rewarding to contribute to
an event that benefited not just me but all my fellow students.
Being a member of the medical committee during school sports events was another relevant
experience. I helped provide first aid to athletes, which was a significant responsibility. This
hands-on experience reinforced the importance of quick thinking and teamwork in ensuring
athletes’ safety and well-being.
One of the most impactful moments of my journey was during our NSTP outreach program,
where we taught sports and exercise to a children community. Seeing how our efforts brought
smiles and excitement to the children made me realize how powerful sports can be in
connecting and inspiring people. It gave me a sense of purpose and pride in the course I’m
pursuing.
Above all, the friendships I’ve made have had the greatest impact on me. This course wasn’t
what I initially wanted, but the support and encouragement of my friends helped me push
through challenges and appreciate the journey. They’ve made every experience more enjoyable
and meaningful, reminding me that I’m not alone in this path.
These engaging, relevant, and impactful experiences have not only strengthened my skills and
confidence but also shaped my perspective on why I chose this path. While my BSESS journey
started with uncertainty, it continues with gratitude and growth, thanks to these opportunities
and the people who made it worthwhile.
