A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE FOR GRADE 7

Prepared by: Clemente, Angelica May L.

Content Standard:
●How heat is transferred
Learning Competencies:
●Infer the conditions necessary for heat transfer to occur

I. Lesson Objectives :
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Differentiate heat and temperature,
b. Describe the necessary condition for heat transfer to take place;
c. Cite some application of heat that will transfer to another.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Heat transfer
b. Reference: Science Learner’s Material 7 ( pg. 243-261 )
c. Materials: marker, and Visual Aid, PPT , Wood, books
d. Skills: Observing and Experimenting
e. Values Integration: Collaboration and Cooperation
f. Methodology: 7E’s ( Elicit, Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaboration,
Evaluation, Extend )
g. Concept: Heat to cause something to become warm or hot, energy that
causes things to become warmer, hot weather or temperatures

III. Lesson Procedure

Teacher’s Activities Learner’s Activities

ELICIT

Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am !

How are you today? We’re fine .

Alright. Let us all stand for the prayer ( Student will pray)
Janice kindly lead the prayer

Before you take your seat. Kindly

pick up the pieces of paper and arrange your
chair . Also kindly remove all the unnecessary
things above your desk that are not included Yes Ma’am
in our topic today.

Miss Secretary. Kindly check the attendance None. Ma’am

if there’s someone is not around today.

Very good ..last meeting I gave you an

assignment kindly pass it here in front and I ( The students will pass their assignments)
will check it later.

So now before we proceed to our next Ma’am our topic last meeting is all about the
discuss. What was our topic last meeting? solar system

Any questions and clarifications with regards No Ma’am

to our previous discussion?

If there is no questions let’s move on to our

next topic

ENGAGE

So now. I want you to stand up and touch

your seatmate arms and tell me what you Ma’am I feel the heat from his/ her arm
feel.

What do you think why you can feel the heat Ma’am I think the heat transfer to my hand
that came from the arm of your seatmate? when I touched their arm

Very well said . So now I will group you into 2

groups. I have here a pictures what are you
going to do is to guess what the pictures tells
about.

Melting candle

Hand near a flame

Boiling water in a pan

The sunlight or heated the Earth

Melting ice cream

Heated hot air balloon

The man feels hot under the sun

A hand holding a heated frying pan

Ironing clothes

Sunbathing

All of your answers are correct those pictures

that you have seen are the example of our
Lesson for today

EXPLORE

But I have here a few questions and

wheels that contain all your names. The
chosen one will answer the question

(Spin the wheel)

Okay. Here’s your Question What will happen

if you accidentally touch the heated pan while
cooking? ( student will answer)

Very good thank you! So now let’s proceed

to the next Question

( Spin the wheel)

Next question is. Imagine you are walking on

a street with a high degree of heat what will ( Student will answer)
happen to your skin?

Very well said. Thank you! For the last

Question

( Spin the wheel)

Okay for our lucky one here’s your question.

What is heat? Kindly give me a real life ( Student will answer)
scenario about heat?

Okay Thank you class!

EXPLAIN

So now Based on our activities earlier do Ma’am I think Heat transfer

you have any idea what is our topic for
today? Anyone?

Yes exactly. Our topic for today is heat

transfer and how Heat is being transferred

But before that I will read first our objectives

for today’s discussion

( Read the objectives)

Yes. Now why do we experience heat ? and Ma’am we experience heat because of the
how and how do we know if we already differences of the temperature
conducting a transferred of heat?

Yes we experience heat because of the

temperature differences also we will know
that we already conducting a transferred of
heat if we have the thing called insulator and
conductor . Later we will know what are those
but now we will first define what is Heat
transfer?

ELABORATE

What is Heat? - This is the movement of

thermal energy from a substance at a higher
temperature to another at a lower
temperature.

Heat vs. Temperature

-Heat is the actual energy
- Temperature is the measure of average
kinetic energy of particles in a substance.

Heat is NOT Temperature

Heat Transfer
⚫Heat always moves from a warmer place to
a cooler place.
⚫Hot objects in a cooler room will cool to
room temperature
⚫Cold objects in a warmer room will heat up
to room temperature.

Heat Transfer Methods

⚫Heat transfers in three ways: ⚫Conduction
⚫Convection ⚫Radiation

Conduction
- heat transfer is the flowing of heat energy
from a high-temperature object to a lower-
temperature object.

Conduction When you heat a metal strip at

one end, the heat travels to the other end. As
you heat the metal, the particles vibrate,
these vibrations make the adjacent particles
vibrate, and so on and so on, the vibrations
are passed along the metal and so is the
heat. We call this? Conduction
Why does metal feel colder than wood, if they
are both at the same temperature? Metal is a
conductor, wood is an insulator. Metal
conducts the heat away from your hands.
Wood does not conduct the heat away from
your hands as well as the metal, so the wood
feels warmer than the metal

Convection
- takes place when heated molecules move
from one place to another, taking the heat
with them.

-Convection is common in both the

atmosphere, as well as in the oceans.
Convection is the primary way that heat
moves through gases and liquids.

Convection What happens to the particles in

a liquid or a gas when you heat them?

-The particles spread out and become less

dense.

Water movement Hot water rises Cooler

water sinks Convection current Cools at the
surface

Cold air sinks Where is the freezer

compartment put in a fridge?
Freezer compartment It is put at the top,
because cool air sinks, so it cools the food on
the way down. It is warmer at the bottom, so
this warmer air rises and a convection current
is set up.

Radiation

The third method of heat transfer How does

heat energy get from the Sun to the Earth?

Radiation
⚫The transfer of energy by electromagnetic
waves.
Examples: ⚫Sun ⚫Fire ⚫Light bulb
Why are houses painted white in hot
countries?
- White reflects heat radiation and keeps
the house cooler.

EVALUATION

Direction: Choose the letter of the correct

answer and write it in your activity notebook

[Link] of the following is not a method of

heat transfer?
A. Radiation. B. Insulation
C. Conduction D. Convection

2. In which of the following are the particles

closest together?
A. Solid B. Liquid C. Gas D. Fluid

3. How does heat energy reach the Earth

from the Sun?
A. Radiation B. Conduction
C. Convection D. Insulation

4. Which is the best surface for reflecting

heat radiation?
A. Shiny white B. Dull white
C. Shiny black D. Dull black

5. Which is the best surface for absorbing

heat radiation?
A. Shiny white B. Dull white
C. Shiny black D. Dull black

EXTEND
Yes Ma’am !
For your Assignment. Give atleast 10
example of insulators and conductors. And 5
examples of heat is being transferred write it
in your Assignment notebook and pass it next
meeting
