Gas laws: a set of physical laws that describe the relationship between
pressure, volume, temperature, and quantity of gas.

The ideal gas law assumes that gases behave ideally, meaning they
adhere to the following characteristics:

(1) the collisions occurring between molecules are elastic and their motion
is frictionless, meaning that the molecules do not lose energy.

(2) the total volume of the individual molecules is magnitudes smaller

than the volume that the gas occupies.

(3) there are no intermolecular forces acting between the molecules or

their surroundings.

(4) the molecules are constantly in motion, and the distance between two
molecules is significantly larger than the size of an individual molecule.

As a result of all these assumptions, an ideal gas would not form a liquid
at room temperature.

To understand the relationship between any two variables other

parameters must be controlled.

Use the link below to find the correlation between variables by collecting
appropriate data through manipulation of variables.

Activity 1: Find the correlation between amount of gas in moles(n)
and volume at constant pressure and temperature.

Step1: open the link, use the piston to increase the amount of gas
(consider each piston movement is adding 1 mole of gas) at STP (standard
temperature and pressure).

Step2: Keep the pressure controlled and don’t change the temperature.

Step3: Measure the length and width of gas occupying space using a scale
on your screen (Assume the height of this gas cylinder-10 cm) and
calculate the volume changes with change in amount of gas by moving
piston.

Plot a 2D graph and find the slope and correlation coefficient using MS-
excel graphs or graph sheet.

Activity 2: Find the correlation between Pressure and volume for

fixed amount of gas

Step1: By moving piston take some fixed amount of gas and control
temperature.

Step2: Use scale to measure the length, width and assume the height is
10 cm to calculate the initial volume (l x b x h) and record the initial
pressure.
Step3: adjust the volume of container by dragging the handle of container
measure the change in length or width of the container and record the
pressure changes

Activity 3: Finding the correlation between Pressure and
Temperature for fixed amount of gas.

Step1: By moving piston take some fixed amount of gas.

Step2: Measure the volume and keep this volume controlled.

Step3: Record initial temperature and Pressure by using the simulator

change the temperature and record the changes in pressure.
Step4: repeat this 5 time and collect data and process data.
