DNA-M Installation & Upgrade Guide for Linux 1. DNA-M Installation

1. DNA-M Installation
This chapter will take you through the prerequisites and necessary steps to install a DNA-M server
for the first time. Prerequisites needed for installing the DNA-M Server as well as useful checklists
before starting the installation can be found below.

1.1. Prerequisites
The host machine onto which you intend to install the DNA-M Server must meet the following
requirements:

1.3. Installation
Follow the steps in this section if you are performing a new installation on a server with no previous
version of DNA-M.

1.3.1. Upgrading Red Hat or CentOS

Before starting the DNA-M installation, ensure that the latest version of the OS is installed.
Upgrading the CentOS or a properly subscribed Red Hat system is done by running the following
command:

yum update

A Red Hat subscription is acquired through Red Hat.

If the server does not have Internet access, the upgrade can be performed using the latest
installation media, downloaded from CentOS or Red Hat.

1.3.2. Installing Java

If the server has Internet access an appropriate version of Java will be installed automatically during
the DNA-M installation. If this is not the case, a suitable version must be installed manually. The
easiest way to do this is to go to the software repository for your Linux version and search for java-
1.8.0-openjdk. Download the latest x86_64 rpm file and transfer it to the DNA-M server. Then install
it by issuing the following command in the directory with the file:

yum install java-1.8.0-openjdk*.rpm

In order to set the correct version of Java as the system JVM run the following command and select
the Java 8 entry:

alternatives --config java

1.3.3. Installing MariaDB

The DNA-M Server requires a MariaDB server to run and instructions on how to install the latest
stable version can be found at [Link]

1.3.4. Installing RabbitMQ

RabbitMQ is a messaging broker (based on Erlang) - an intermediary for messaging, used for
sending messages about events internally in DNA-M.
Below are two ways of installing the RabbitMQ depending on whether the host machine has access
to the Internet or not.

[Link]. Installing RabbitMQ using YUM repository

 This alternative provides easy setup and access to updates but can only be used if
the host machine has access to the Internet.

1. Add Erlang repository

later
4. Install RabbitMQ

yum install rabbitmq-server-*.rpm

Please refer [Link] for details about the

 compatibility between the RabbitMQ and Erlang RPMs and ensure the compatible
RPMs are installed

1.3.5. Installing DNA-M

 Port 5672 must be opened in firewall between DNA-M Server and DNA-M Client

Below are the way of installing the DNA-M Server.

Download the DNA-M installation archive in tgz format from [Link]

Move the installation archive to the server, extract it:

tar zxvf tnm-*-[Link]

Install the DNA-M server with:

yum install tnm-*.rpm

1.3.6. Configure RabbitMQ

RabbitMQ must be configured for use with DNA-M. Configure with following command

/opt/transmode/tnm/mainserver/scripts/setup_rabbitmq.sh

1.3.7. Installing DNA-M license

Place the license file [Link] in the directory /etc/tnm

1.3.8. Initializing the database

The database must be initialized for use by DNA-M with the following command:

mysql -uroot -p < /opt/transmode/tnm/mainserver/scripts/[Link]

The [Link] script creates a database and database user dedicated to DNA-M.

1.3.9. Configuring the DNA-M server

A default installation of DNA-M does not require any manual configuration. Optional adjustments
such as server name or memory usage are configured in the following files:

Configuration files Comment

/etc/tnm/[Link] DNA-M application settings (e.g. server name, node trap address, …)

/etc/sysconfig/tnmserver Java runtime settings (e.g. memory usage)

/etc/tnm/[Link] Logging settings (e.g. debug logging)

Please refer to the DNA-M Server Admin Guide for available settings.

[Link]. Enable starting DNA-M via ServerGUI in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
(optional)
In order to be able to start DNA-M server via ServerGUI in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, follow below
instructions.

1. Remove # from the line #[Link]: service tnmserver in /etc/tnm/[Link]

 After this change, to start DNA-M server via ServerGUI in Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 6, the ServerGUI must be ran as root

1.4. Setting DNA-M up to run as a non-root user (optional)

DNA-M can be set up to run as a non-root user. For this configuration, the sudo and iptables
packages must be installed on the server where DNA-M is running. All ports in
/etc/tnm/[Link] must also be set to available non-privileged ports above 1023.

In order to configure this simply run the script setup_user.sh, found in

/opt/transmode/tnm/mainserver/scripts/, with the desired user as an argument:

/opt/transmode/tnm/mainserver/scripts/setup_user.sh username

The script will check for all needed packages and settings and inform if anything needs to be

corrected.

After setup is completed the chosen user will be able to perform all DNA-M server admin operations,
have access to the DNA-M directories, and can start and stop DNA-M using sudo, e.g.

sudo service tnmserver start

1.4.1. Starting DNA-M

service tnmserver start

Once the DNA-M server is started, the DNA-M client GUI can be downloaded, installed and started
from the DNA-M webstart page:

2.3. Upgrade
Once all the prerequisites are met and all checklists crossed off the actual upgrade can begin.

2.3.1. Updating Red Hat or CentOS

Before starting the DNA-M upgrade, ensure that the latest version of the OS is installed. Upgrading
the CentOS or a properly subscribed Red Hat system is a simple matter of running the following
command:

yum update

A Red Hat subscription is acquired through Red Hat.

If the server does not have Internet access, the upgrade can be performed using the latest
installation media, downloaded from CentOS or Red Hat.

2.3.2. Updating Java

In order to set the correct version of Java as the system JVM run the following command and select
the Java 8 entry:

alternatives --config java

2.3.3. Updating MariaDB

 Backup your current DNA-M database before upgrading MariaDB or DNA-M.

Starting DNA-M initiates an automatic upgrade of the DNA-M database tables.

mysqldump -uroot -p --single-transaction --quick --databases tnmdb -r /BACKUP_LOCATION/BACKUP_NAME.sql

BACKUP_LOCATION and BACKUP_NAME are to be replaced with the actual folder and filename
respectively.

The DNA-M Server requires a MariaDB server to run. Instructions on how to install the latest stable
version can be found at [Link]

If Database replication using MariaDb Galera Cluster is used and MariaDb is upgraded to version
10.4 and greater, then compatible Galera RPM should be installed. For example: For MariaDb
version 10.4, galera-4 should be installed.

2.3.4. Updating RabbitMQ

RabbitMQ is a messaging broker (based on Erlang) - an intermediary for messaging, used for
sending messages about events internally in DNA-M.
Below are two ways of installing the RabbitMQ depending on whether the host machine has access
to the Internet or not. For details, please refer [Link]

RPMs are installed

2.3.5. Upgrading DNA-M

First stop the running instance of the DNA-M Server.

service tnmserver stop

If you are using database replication, then the replication should be halted now. Refer to the DNA-M
Database Replication Guide for complete details on restarting replication. In short the replication can
be stopped as follows. From the database commandline:
