Property Rights: National Land Use Plan

Many people didn't have a land title before, especially families in the poorer class who only lived
as illegal settlers. However, it is a good thing that after watching the video, a lot of people
wanted to help those in need. Even though it took a lot of time and proper planning, they
achieved a law that could help those people have their own land titles. They also used their
connections within the legislation for them to be able to present it to Congress and pass the bill.
It relieves me that a group of professionals is still doing their best for the Filipinos to have a
better life. The new laws that have been passed could help future generations have a right to
own property, and this could help encourage them to pay taxes and support the government in
creating more laws regarding land allocation for the people.
A lot of legislators are suggesting bills to improve our laws in regard to our lands. One of these
is the National Land Use Plan, which focuses on protecting our environment with the plan to
cooperate with the different local government units. Their primary focus is to plan long-term for
the new generations to have sustainable livelihoods, food, and shelter. In the short term, this is
about land protection for our resources. I support this kind of law, which focuses on proper
planning for our future generations, but I wonder if they could be successful in the early years
since it needs the willingness of the different sectors of the government and LGUs to collaborate
to implement these projects. Even the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, which focuses
on giving land titles to the farmers, has its own problems. One of the data shows that after the
farmer receives their land title, they sell it to other people in order to obtain easy money. In
these cases, even existing laws are already having a problem. They should also provide a
direction in case of the NLUA's enactment and make sure that legislator would not take
advantage of this law for their own self-interest within their own places.
The people should also do their part by becoming vigilant so they will not be taken advantage of
by those with self-interest. It would take time for outsiders, specifically those who don't know
about these laws, to understand different laws. There should be more campaigns regarding
these kinds of laws for the public to be more aware. There should also be accountability and
monitoring in this matter for us to know the different updates in the various places. There should
also be accountability and monitoring in this matter for us to know the different updates in the
various places. Younger generations should also be mindful of current events for their own sake.
