Topic 2: Demonstrate Humility

Introduction (Mở đầu bài present)

The purpose of this presentation is to explore humility, and its impact on personal and professional growth
in various aspects of our lives. As we dive into this topic, we'll discover that humility is a dynamic force
that can improve communication, teamwork, and overall success.
I. What does it mean to humility?
1. Definition
- Humility is the ability to acknowledge our strengths and weaknesses without arrogance or defensiveness.
2. Characteristics
- A polite attitude, civilized behavior, and respect for everyone
- Self-awareness
- Openness to Feedback and continuous improvement
- Putting Others First: this is not a weakness but rather a form of modesty that can significantly contribute to
success.
- Learning from mistakes: as opportunities for growth is a sign of humility.

II. What are the benefits of Demonstrating Humility? đạt

1. (Humility gives you) Better Relationships because:
- When you’re debating with other people to find the solution for any problem, you should listen to them, and
give them a chance to speak their ideas up rather than believe that you are always right.
- People who are arrogant and look at their phones all the time isolate others and do not want to interact or
communicate in groups.
2. Openness and humility contribute to more effective and clearer communication, reducing
misunderstandings.
- Humble people are open to learning from others instead of being arrogant, they are willing to the feedback
because it helps them to become a better person.
=> This makes it easier to make friends and learn from others because they feel comfortable interacting
with.
3. (Humility makes you) develop Adaptability:
- Those humble ones prioritize listening over speaking, embrace new perspectives, and facilitate overall
growth. It gives you the ability to control your feelings and behavior.
- For example, a humble person doesn’t allow his desires for pleasure or success to guide his actions. If a
person cannot control their emotions, this will cause inappropriate reactions to other people.
4. Demonstrating humility builds credibility and earns respect from peers and subordinates.
- They don’t feel the need to prove themselves and constantly seek attention or be better than others. They
know they’ve faults, but they don’t let those faults define them.
- Humble people are quick to admit mistakes and help others get back on track when they encounter many
mistakes.
- On the other hand, people who are not humble will never admit that they were wrong, even if there’s no
obvious evidence.
5. Create a Positive Work Environment
- It boosts Team Cohesion and encourages collaboration and a sense of unity among team members. A
humble approach creates a positive atmosphere, enhancing productivity and overall fulfillment at work.
- Rather than highlighting themselves, humble people aim to be part of the solution. In the face of
disagreements, they avoid unproductive debates. Instead, they ask questions to view from different
perspectives, fostering growth and collaboration within the team.
6. Enhanced Leadership:
- Humble leaders are often more approachable. They’re More Likely to Be Good Leaders Because They Put
the Needs of Others Before Their Own
- As a leader, you may allow others to speak if their ideas are really good and guide them on how to express
their ideas. In this way, you give your team members more confidence and encourage them to participate
further. When someone feels that his voice is truly heard, he will feel more comfortable at work and want to
contribute more.
- In addition, humble leaders don’t claim their others’ achievements as their own. Instead, they recognize the
efforts of all who’ve contributed in some way.
##. Real-life example
this part is a real-life example of the clear benefits of being humble.
Do you remember an incident about a little girl who fell from the 12th floor of an apartment building in
Thanh Xuan district in 2021, That incident was very popular at that time, not because of its tragedy but
because of the brave act of a very humble individual, Nguyen Ngoc Manh, who saved that girl from the
arms of death, and the following video of his interview with VTV is why my team chose him as a real
example of humility
// showing the video
His brave act has touched the hearts of many people. However, he shared that he did not want to be
called a hero; he just did what anyone in that situation would do.
His humility is reflected in the way he shares his thoughts. He did not praise or elevate himself but rather
described the situation most appropriately. He also refused all praise and gifts, only wishing people were
more concerned about protecting their children so that such tragic incidents do not happen again.
His humility has made viewers love and respect him even more. It shows that he is a kind-hearted person
who always aims for the good of the community. It makes a good impression on everyone to become a
good example for the young generation, it proves that anyone can do good things and become a hero in
everyday life.
His act of courage and humility has become an inspiration to many. He is a shining example of
responsibility, and humility in our study.
III. How do you demonstrate humility? (huế)
*Script*
In demonstrating humility, active listening plays an important role, constituting 40% of effective communication. To
actively listen, one must focus on attention during conversations and avoid distractions like phones. Empathetic
responses confirm people's viewpoints, showing an interest in their experiences while steering clear of the pitfall of
talking only about oneself, which could risk coming across as arrogant.

Another facet of humility lies in admitting mistakes. This involves taking ownership of mistakes without blaming
others or making excuses. Consider constructive criticism a valuable opportunity to improve rather than a personal
attack. The commitment to learning from mistakes is emphasized, as is developing a continuous improvement
mindset. Sincere/sɪnˈsɪər/ apologies are crafted by acknowledging specific wrongs, taking responsibility,
expressing regret, declaring intentions to change, offering to make amends/əˈmendz, and earnestly requesting
forgiveness.

Asking for advice or help is a humble act that acknowledges shared interests and makes individuals feel valued for
their expertise. Here is how to ask for advice. Firstly, make it personal: Let people know why you specifically chose
them for support. Secondly, ask for specific problems linked to their expertise. Moreover, always thank people for
their insight, support, and actions. Let people know how their support made a difference.

Valuing people's opinions is integral to humility. Actively finding and valuing diverse opinions creates an
environment where everyone feels their input is valued. Respecting differences involves showing humility by
respecting and appreciating the individual's unique opinions and strengths. To practice staying open to opinions, try
some of these approaches: First, ask people how they would approach a problem you’re facing and how something
you’ve created or done makes them feel or think. Then, ask people how they would have handled something you’ve
done, and consider the feedback's context. Furthermore, nod your head to show people you’re listening and to
encourage people to continue sharing.

Celebrating and empowering others manifests humility by acknowledging the collective contributions of the team
and encouraging collaboration over individual achievement. Recognizing and celebrating accomplishments,
showing appreciation, and embracing a continuous learning mindset by recognizing the value everyone brings is
essential. To celebrate and empower others, praise individuals for their amazing ideas, efforts, or personalities.
Share it at meetings, in public, or on social media if the individual isn't too uncomfortable doing so. People feel seen
when they do this! Another approach is to ask people for their ideas on something they have expertise in.

V: A workplace scenario

The narrator: This scene is set in a conference room. I, the narrator and boss, call a meeting to discuss the recently
successful project, the project has 3 employees, Đạt, Chi, and Huế. After listening to them, you will be asked some
questions, so please, pay close attention to what they say.
Thịnh: Thank you all for gathering here today. I must say, the success of our recent project is truly commendable.
Each of you has contributed significantly, and I believe it's important to hear your thoughts on the achievement.
Let's start with Đạt.

Đạt: Well, it's no surprise that the project turned out to be a success. I knew it would come, I knew from the
beginning that my ideas would be the key to the project's success. As expected, I pushed for them, and they led us
to victory. If it had not been for my contribution, the project would not have succeeded.

Thịnh: Uh huh, what about you, Huế?

Huế: I'm grateful to be a part of this team. I believe the success we've achieved is a result of everyone's
collaboration. It wasn't just about individual ideas, but how we all collaborated to make it work. Teamwork makes
the dream work, as they say.
Thinh: Alright, and lastly, Chi.

Chi: Well, I honestly /ˈɒnɪstli/ didn't think my role was important that much. I mean, everyone else had such great
ideas, and I just tried to add my little bit. I guess I got lucky that it all worked out.

The narrator: And now I have some questions for you guys about the scenario, is there anyone who
volunteers?
1. What do you think of each person after he or she has spoken their thoughts and how do those words
reflect their personality?
2. And if there is a project in the future, then who will you choose to continue working on, and why do you
choose them?
Answer
V1:
- In my opinion, Đạt seems confident, maybe too bordering on overconfidence, and believes in the
importance of his ideas. On the other hand, Huế demonstrates humility, values collaboration, and collective
success. And Chi seems modest and underestimates her impact.
- If there is a project in the future, Huế looks like a strong candidate for projects that require collaboration
because she emphasizes teamwork and acknowledges collective effort.

V2
- I think the opinion of Đạt comes across as confident and asserts the importance of personal ideas. His
words reflect that he is assertive and possibly somewhat self-centered. Huế shows humility and emphasizes
teamwork. Chi is willing to contribute in her own way, which can be valuable to the team and promote
harmony. But she's not suitable to be a team leader because she's quite timid and doesn't think highly of
herself.
- If there is a project in the future, I may choose Đạt for projects where strong leadership and assertiveness
are required, but collaborative skills should be monitored.
In summary,
we've explored the multifaceted concept of humility, knowing it not as a weakness but as a quality that improves our
personal and professional lives.
We've discussed the importance of humility, especially at work, and ways to show humility: acknowledge our
strengths and weaknesses, take 0responsibility for our actions, and value the contributions of others.
As we navigate our journey through life, let us be confident without arrogance, be open to continuous learning, and
create a positive and collaborative environment around us.

VI: review

Performance:

- Clear Definitions and Logical Structure: +

The logical structure allowed the audience to easily follow the presentation, providing a cohesive study of each
concept.
- Engagement through Interactive Questions +
The presentation excelled in fostering audience engagement through interactive questions. This not only
sustained interest but also created a sense of participation and connection among the audience.
- Neglected Opportunities for Exploration: -
While the presentation successfully told the differences between humility and self-esteem, there was a wasted
chance to investigate how these concepts interacted in different situations. Adding this component might
lead to a deeper understanding.
- Pacing and pronunciations -
The presenter's pace was generally appropriate, but sometimes speaking too quickly, too slowly or
mispronunciations could be addressed for better audience comprehension.

Examples and scenarios:

- Effective Use of Examples in positive and negative perspectives: +
Group 2 effectively utilized real-life examples to illustrate key points. These comparable stories closed the gap
between theoretical concepts and practical application, making the content accessible to the audience.
- Need an overview of the real-life scenario: -
Although those examples and scenarios are really detailed and logically organized, it seemed quite long and
hard to grasp all the key points in a few minutes, it would be better if there were 1 or 2 slides used to
summarize or take some key notes of the scenario.

Visual

- Balanced Visual Aids and Presentation Style: +

Visual aids, including slides and graphics, were used to complement key points. The presenter's confident
delivery, along with a balanced combination of body language and diverse vocabulary, produced a dynamic
presentation.
- Ensuring Visual Consistency: -
Some slides were inconsistent or chaotic, and while some of the earliest pictures were high-resolution, some of
the latter were blurry. Ensuring that all slides have a similar layout and image resolution would improve the
presentation's overall quality.

In conclusion, Group Two's presentation successfully demonstrated the differences between humility and self-
esteem, using unique characteristics and a well-structured approach. Addressing the highlighted points for
improvement might increase the presentation's overall effect.
