Assignment of class-04 (Chapter 1: Sections IV, V)

1. Problem 897 & 906, p. 261; (Đankô, vol. 1)

2. Problems 968 & 973, p. 270.
3. Problem 977, p. 271
4. Problem 1285, p. 334;
5. Problem 1200, p. 319;
6. The volume of a cylinder is increasing at a rate of 9 cubic centimeters per second,
which is attributed to the increases of the height (ℎ) and bottom radius (𝑟). Knowing
that the increasing rate of the height is double compared to that of the bottom radius.
a) How fast is the total surface area increasing when ℎ = 20𝑐𝑚, 𝑟 = 10𝑐𝑚?
b) Compare the increasing rates of the bottoms and side surface areas when ℎ =
20𝑐𝑚, 𝑟 = 10𝑐𝑚.
7. A water tank has the shape of an inverted right circular cone with its axis vertical and
vertex lowermost. Its semi-vertical angle is 𝛼 = arctan(0.5). Water is poured into it at
a constant rate of 5 cubic meters per hour. Find the rate at which the level of the water
is rising at the instant when the depth of water in the tank is 4 m.

8. The total revenue 𝐶(𝑥) in USD, associated with the production of 𝑥 units of an item is
given by:
𝐶(𝑥) = −𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 − 3
The marginal revenue is defined as the instantaneous rate of change of total revenue
at any level of output,
a) Finding the intervals in which the marginal revenue is (1) increasing and (2)
decreasing.
b) Determining the maximal revenue that can be achieved.
9. The trajectory of a biker on the ground is given by:
ln 𝑦 − 3 sin 𝑥 + 𝑦𝑥 2 = 0
where 𝑥, 𝑦 denote the latitude and longitude of the geographic coordinate system,
respectively. The bike has both ahead and side floodlights (their light rays are
perpendicular to each other). Finding the directions of the projection light of the two
floodlights at 𝑥 = 0.
10. Using the definition of differentials, finding the equation of uniformly straight motion.
Plotting the graphs of the distance and speed as functions of time.
11. The human eyes cannot clearly observe an object if it moves with an angular velocity
(compared to his eyes) greater than 0.3 rad/s. An onlooker is watching a motorcycle
racer as described in the below figure. Determining the maximal speed of the racer
so that the onlooker still clearly observes him.
