INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission has mandated as per
Sec 12(h) of The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 to spread human rights
literacy and promote awareness among students about the need for safe
guarding, promoting and protecting human rights, for which the Commission is
conducting Internship Programme thoroughout the year.
The main objectives of the internship is to prepare students to become
responsible citizens with awareness of the relationship between Human Rights,
democracy and development; to foster respect for international obligations for
peace and development; to impart education on national and international
regime of Human Rights; to sensitize students to human suffering and
promotion of human life with dignity; to develop skills on human rights
advocacy and to appreciate the relationship between rights and duties and to
foster respect for tolerance and compassion for all living beings.
Duration:
An offline full time thirty days Internship Programme is conducted for
the students.
Eligibilty Crietia:
The students must be pursuing Graduation and Masters in Law including in the
field of Human Rights, Integrated Course (B.B.A L.L.B, B. Com L.L.B, B.A
L.L.B).
The maximum age limit of student is 28 years.
If the student has earlier completed internship at KSHRC, such students
are not eligible to apply for internship again.
Should have completed 2 years of legal education with Constitution as a
subject.
Should have completed SSLC and PUC / 12th STD with minimum of
60% marks.
Preferably should know to read, write and understand Kannada
Language.
Should possess Typing skills and basic computer knowledge.
Preferrably should know to work in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Other Documents required:
Bonafide Letter from the college.
Self attested copy of SSLC and PUC marks sheet.
Self attested copy of Aadhaar Card
Residential Proof
Resume along with Two Photographs
ID Card of currently pursuing course of present institution
Any candidate with the above mentioned elibility criteria and documents may
apply for internship at the Commission in the prescribed format, minimum 15
days prior, on which an interview date shall be scheduled.
Internship may be allowed subject to vacancy and approval at an interview by
the Hon’ble Chairperson/Member.

Welcome and Introduction of Officers by PRO – one day
Induction programme and introduction about the Commission by PS to
Chairperson – 2 days
Study of provisions, module of case study and procedures under section
12 of the PHR Act – Law wing (Registrar and Addl. Registrar) – 10 days
(2 weeks)
To understand the procedure of investigation, enquiring process, visiting
to spots for preparing case study under the supervision of senior police
officers of KSHRC –Investigation wing (DySPs) - 6 days (1 week)
Participation and witnessing the proceedings of the Commission for better
understanding of the process, judicial limitations and flow of Judgment –
3 days
Submission and evaluation of Research paper – concluding program – 3
days
Pratical work
1. Each intern mandatorily has to submit a research paper on any Human Rights
topic of their choice at the end of the internship along with daily work done
report. The intern should aim at zero plagiarism. However, a similarity of up to
15% plagiarism is allowed.
2. Interaction with Hon’ble Chairperson and Hon’ble Member and other officers of
the Commission.
3. CASE STUDY - Full bench (Judicial Custody Death, Police Torture matters)
and Single Bench (Regular matters).
4. Attending Full bench hearings and making notes.
5. Drafting proceedings and complaints.
6. The students are exposed to the functioning of various divisions of the
Commission, working at the Hon’ble Chairperson and Hon’ble Member office
for a week on rotation basis.
7. Working at the Investigation Wing – getting to know the procedure of statement
recording and other investigation procedures.
8. Ground work - visiting Organizations/Institutions/fields involved in human
rights issues if required.
9. Any other work as and when assigned by the officers of the Commission.
On Completion
Certificate of participation will be awarded to the candidates on the basis
of their punctuality, discipline, participation, timely submission of
research paper.
It is mandatory for interns to attend all the sessions of the internship at all
the wings of the Commission. Any application of leave will not be
entertained.
If the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission finds it appropriate or
deems it useful, the research paper submitted by the student or part of it
may be published or used, with necessary alternation/addition at the
instance of KSHRC, to which the student shall have no objection or claim.
