Grade 8 Performance Task: GRASPS Framework (Revised)

Subject: Values Education / Christian Living

Topic: Living the Christian Life: Youth and the Teachings of Jesus

Performance Standard:
The learner is able to determine the proper and correct way of living their lives as youth
in the way Jesus teaches His Church.

GRASPS Format:

Goal:

You are tasked with creating a daily devotional journal or life guide that helps
young people live according to the teachings of Jesus. This guide will include daily
reflections, prayers, and actions based on Christian values that can be applied in your
everyday life as a youth.

Role:

You are a Christian Youth Mentor creating a practical tool (a devotional journal or life
guide) to help your peers live out the values taught by Jesus. Your role is to provide a
resource that your classmates can use in their daily routines to grow spiritually, develop
positive character traits, and make wise decisions.

Audience:

Your primary audience is your classmates and other young people who are seeking
to live more Christ-centered lives. Your journal or guide will serve as a tool to help them
live according to the teachings of Jesus.

Situation:

As young people, you face many challenges and distractions in life: school pressures,
friendships, social media, peer influence, and more. But Jesus teaches us how to live a
life of love, humility, forgiveness, and service. You are asked to create a guide that will
help your peers reflect on these values daily and apply them in their personal lives.

Product:

Create a Daily Devotional Journal or a Life Guide for youth that includes the following
elements:

1. Daily Reflections and Bible Verses:

o Each page or section of the journal should include a Bible verse (e.g.,
Matthew 5:14-16, John 13:34-35) that reflects a core Christian value, such as
love, humility, forgiveness, or kindness.

o A short reflection (2-3 sentences) that explains how this value can be
applied in the life of a young person today.
2. Practical Daily Actions:

o A suggested action for each day (e.g., “Help a classmate with their
homework today” or “Say something kind to someone who needs
encouragement”).

o The action should be realistic and something youth can easily do in their
daily routines to live out the value from the Bible verse.

3. Personal Prayer or Meditation:

o Each day should have a short prayer or meditation that invites the reader
to ask for God’s help in living out the value of the day.

o Example: "Lord, help me to love my neighbors, even when it's hard. Help me
to be kind and forgiving in all my relationships."

4. Weekly Reflection:

o At the end of each week, include a weekly reflection page where students
can reflect on how they lived out Jesus’ teachings over the week. They can
write about challenges they faced and moments where they were able to
apply the values they learned.

o Encourage them to write a commitment statement for the upcoming week

(e.g., “This week, I will focus on being patient and forgiving”).

Standard:

Your work will be assessed based on the following:

 Relevance and Depth of Teachings: How well you demonstrate understanding

of Jesus’ teachings and their practical application in the daily life of youth.

 Creativity and Practicality: How creative and practical your daily journal entries
are. Are the suggested actions easy for young people to implement? Are the
reflections and prayers relevant and thoughtful?

 Consistency: How consistently you apply Jesus’ teachings throughout the journal
and ensure that each day builds upon Christian values.

 Engagement and Usability: How engaging and usable your journal or life guide
is for your peers. Is it something they would actually use in their day-to-day life?

Submission Guidelines:

 Submit your Daily Devotional Journal or Life Guide by the assigned due date.

 Your journal should cover at least one week of daily reflections, actions, and
prayers.

 Ensure that the content is easy to read and engaging for young people (consider
using colorful designs, simple language, and creative elements).

 Include Bible verses for each day’s theme and suggest concrete actions that can
be done in daily life.
Conclusion:

This task invites you to create a practical and meaningful resource that helps young
people live out the values taught by Jesus. By developing a Daily Devotional Journal or
Life Guide, you will not only reflect on the Christian teachings but also inspire others to
live with love, kindness, and integrity. This resource will be a valuable tool for your peers
to grow spiritually and make positive choices in their daily lives.
