PPE Requirements

Gloves

Safety Glasses

Safety Boots (with midsole protection)

Reference Equipment Required

Vernier Calliper

1m Steel Rule

300 mm Steel Rule

Balance
Form Required: CW322 Flow Table
1. Flow tables will be checked for accuracy every 6 months from the date of the first use following
the most recent calibration.

2. The flow table shall be manufactured from metal and free from concrete paste and rust. The top
plate must be hinged to a rigid base. Check for distortion and record.

3. Measure the tabletop length and width in three locations at either edge and the centre with the
1m steel rule and record and calculate the average.

4. Measure the tabletop plate thickness with the vernier calliper on all four sides and record and
calculate the average.

5. Remove the tabletop from the base at the hinge.

6. Weigh and record the tabletop weight

7. Re-attach the tabletop to the rigid base. Is it hinged in such a way that no aggregate can become
trapped between the hinged surfaces? Are the hinges externally mounted?

8. Is there two lines scribed through the centre of the table running parallel with the sides and
creating a cross?

9. Is there a scribed circle in the centre of the table? Measure and record the diameter using the
steel rule.

10. At the front of the table and attached to the tabletop are there two hard rigid blocks/stops, which
transfer the load from the tabletop to the base during operation?

11. Are footrests provided to aid the stabilization of the table and are they fit for purpose?

12. Measure and record the fall height of the tabletop at the centre line of the front edge using the
steel rule.

13. Is there a handle fixed to the tabletop and in good working order so that the tabletop can be
lifted freely without jerking?

14. Forms for use are appended. Each form identifies the type, serial number, location, specified
accuracy and the record of measurements of the calibration.

The flow table's top plate must be free from concrete paste and rust because these elements can interfere with the table's surface integrity, affecting the precision of measurements. Concrete paste residues may create an uneven surface, while rust can compromise structural integrity and introduce measurement errors. These contaminants can also accelerate further deterioration and compromise the overall function of the table .

Flow tables should be calibrated every 6 months from the date of the first use following the most recent calibration. This frequency ensures that the equipment remains accurate and any wear or deformation that could occur over time is identified and corrected promptly. Regular calibration helps maintain precision and reliability in measurements .

The hard rigid blocks or stops are essential for transferring the load from the tabletop to the base during operation, ensuring stability and uniform force application. Their role is to prevent any non-vertical movement that could result in inaccurate readings or misalignment during usage .

The PPE requirements specified for the calibration procedure include gloves, safety glasses, and safety boots with midsole protection. These items are necessary to protect the individual from potential hazards such as sharp edges when handling equipment, falling objects or stepping on sharp debris, and potential eye injuries from particles that might be ejected during the calibration process .

Checking the flow table's dimensions and condition is crucial as it ensures the accuracy and functionality of the equipment. Accurate dimensions and a well-maintained condition ensure that no external factors impede the precision of measurements, which is vital for consistent and reliable results in any usage of the flow table . This process prevents errors in measurements that could lead to incorrect analysis or conclusions in practical applications.

The scribed lines and circle are critical for ensuring alignment and positioning during use. The two scribed lines help in accurately positioning samples on the table, ensuring they are aligned parallel with the table’s sides, thereby aiding in maintaining consistency during operations. The scribed circle assists in centering samples or loads correctly, which is necessary for uniform measurements and operations of the flow table .

Ensuring no aggregate gets trapped in the hinge area is crucial as it could lead to inaccurate measurements by affecting the levelness and stability of the tabletop. Aggregates could cause undue wear or deformation to hinged surfaces, leading to less accurate operations over time. The cleanliness and freedom from obstruction ensure smooth operation and preserve the mechanical integrity of the flow table .

Footrests enhance the utility and safety by providing additional stability and support for the operator during the use of the flow table. They prevent movement and slipping, helping the user maintain a steady stance, which is especially important during operations requiring precision and when applying force to the tabletop .

A handle fixed to the tabletop enables safe lifting and movement of the tabletop without jerking, reducing the risk of injury and ensuring precision in repositioning the table. Without a properly functioning handle, there is increased risk of accidental slippage or uneven lifting, compromising the stability and balance of the table, thereby affecting measurement accuracy and operator safety .

Weighing and recording the tabletop weight is necessary to ensure consistency and monitor any material degradation or loss over time, which can affect the table's operational balance and accuracy. Understanding the tabletop's weight is vital for confirming that it conforms to specified standards and functions correctly during use .
