d) Water Vapour
3. What is the distance to Venus from the Sun at greatest eastern elongation when Earth-Venus distance is
0.72 AU?
a) 0.79 AU
b) 1.23 AU
c) 0.69 AU
d) 0.48 AU
4. A rocket of 10,000 kg is to be ejected vertically. The velocity of generated gas due to burning is 8000
m/s. At what rate must the rocket emit gas so that it can overcome the gravitational effect of Earth?
a) 0.123 kg/s

6. The total magnitude of a triple star is 0.0. Two of its components have magnitudes 1.0 and 2.0. What is
the magnitude of the third component? The Pogson formula is given by:
I1
= 100.4(m2 −m1 )
I2
7. Prove that angular momentum of an object subjected to central force is conserved , given L=r × p(take
the time derivative and prove its equal to zero)

2 Constellations
Identify the constellations

2
3 Lagrange points
In celestial mechanics, the Lagrange points or libration points are points of equilibrium for small-mass object
under the gravitational influence of two massive orbiting bodies. The object under the force of earth and sun
seems as thought it doesnt move in the Sun-Earth rotating frame. Basically, with respect to the sun, the object
has the same angular velocity to that of earth.

1. Find of earth’s revolution around the sun in terms of MS ,G and RE

2. Find the forces acting on a point on the line between Earth andd Sun . Let its distance be b
3. Find the expression for the L1
