6.6 Example Problem 6

Inspection of a pressure vessel during a scheduled turnaround has detected pitting on both and surfaces.
The vessel and inspection data are shown below. The vessel was constructed to the ASME B&PV Code, Section
VIII Division 1, 2000. The vessel was fabricated in 2002. Determine if the vessel is acceptable for continued
operation at the current and temperature. There are no fatigue loads. The pitting is arrested and not
overlapping. The pitting is in both longitudinal and circumferential welds.

The location of the defects is at the center section of the lower shell centered between the two saddle supports.
