BSAR – 2A
STS ACTIVITY

1. List three everyday actions that release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Which of these could you change to help mitigate climate change?
- The three examples of everyday actions that can release fuels may be combustion of
fossil fuels, deforestation, and farming livestock. I think what I would change is
deforestation. Because that is the simplest and can be avoided by people. The other two I
mentioned are quite difficult to avoid because sometimes we need it in our daily life.
Deforestation can still be avoided. We can even provide a solution to this, just like the
tree planting activities that take place in schools, volunteer planters or something like I
read in the article before that there is a website or application like google that for every
search of one person is equivalent to one plant that volunteers will plant. We can also
spread programs about the effects of deforestation on us. We can use as an example the
events of today that due to the typhoon many places are submerged in floods due to the
lack of trees that should absorb water.

2. What are three renewable energy sources that can help combat climate change? How
do they differ from fossil fuels in terms of environmental impact?

- Based on my research, wind, solar, and hydroelectric electricity are the three
renewable energy sources that can help fight climate change. For the past 150
years or so, humans have relied heavily on coal, oil, and other fossil fuels to
power everything from light bulbs to cars to factories. Fossil fuels are embedded
in nearly everything we do, and as a result, the greenhouse gases released from
the burning of those fuels have reached historically high levels. Renewable
energy is typically at the top of the list of solutions the world may adopt to mitigate
the worst effects of warming temperatures. Because carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases that cause global warming are not released by renewable
energy sources like solar and wind.

3. How can you use social media or other platforms to raise awareness about climate
change and inspire action?
- As a student that always uses social media or that is always updated on social media, I
can use social media and other platforms to raise awareness about climate change by
sharing compelling visuals and sustainable design projects like sharing how a biomimicry
of a biophilic design helps our environment and our own bodies. I can also write some
informative posts about how severe climate change nowadays is and engage in
discussions to gain or learn new knowledge that I can share with others. Collaborating
with environmental organizations like our barangay officials and participating in online
challenges can amplify the message and inspire others in our community and beyond to
adopt eco-friendly practices and take collective action. By consistently leveraging these
platforms, I can reach a diverse audience, foster a sense of community, and drive the
conversation on sustainability forward. Through these efforts, I aim to educate, motivate,
and empower individuals and fellow students to embrace sustainable practices, ultimately
contributing to a collective effort against climate change.
