SPREADSHEET – ASSET ACCOUNTING
ABC Ltd. Purchased a machine on 01.01.2017 for Rs.200000 and spend Rs.10000
for the installation. The machinery was installed on 10.01.2017. The expected
salvage value is Rs.8000, at the end of its useful life of 10 years. Calculate annual
depreciation under SLN method using spreadsheet.
AIM
To calculate annual depreciation of machinery under SLN method by using LibreOffice Calc
spreadsheet.
PROCEDURE
Step 1 : Open LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet
Applications → Office → LibreOffice Calc
Step 2 : Enter the Title, “Depreciation of Machinery purchased on 01.01.2017” in the cell A1.
Step 3 : Enter the Labels in following cells :
A2 – Purchase Cost, B2 – Installation Charges, C2 – Salvage Value
D2 – Life in years, E2 – Total Cost, F2 – Annual Depreciation
Step 4 : Enter values in the following cells
Cell Name Value
A3 200000
B3 10000
C3 8000
D3 10
E3 =A3+B3

Step 5 : Finally, to calculate the Annual depreciation, enter the formula, =SLN(E3,C3,D3) in
the Cell F3.
