Hanafi: In the engine room, the seaman used his cellphone because he was free

from duties and had nothing else to do. He suddenly called his family to check on
them (the engine noise was in the background during the call, making it difficult to
hear his family's voice clearly).

*Phone ringing*

Tura: Hello? What? Happened to Mama! Is she okay?

(The engine noise was in the background during the call, making it difficult to hear
his family's voice clearly). PAUSE FOR THE SOUND EFFECTS

Tura: Hello? Hello? Hell-

SOUND EFFECTS (the call got disconnected due to the signal loss. After
attempting to call again, he couldn't connect due to no signal)

*walkie talkie noises* PAUSE FOR THE SOUND EFFECTS

Russel: Cadet Tura?

Tura: Yes, Sir!

Russel: I want you to check the engine's temperature.

(sabaw kaayo and lutang)

Tura: Yes, Sir!

(Gibuhat niya ang command and mali mali since lutang kaayo siya)

Doloricon: Hey! What are you doing? Don't touch that!

PAUSE FOR THE SFX (noisy background)

Tura: sir?

PAUSE FOR THE SFX (noisy background)

Doloricon: I said, stop doing that! you will put us in danger!

PAUSE FOR THE SFX (noisy background)

Tura: Pardon, sir?

Doloricon: You should listen to our command clearly, stop being lousy!

Tura: oh.. I'm so sorry sir!

Hanafi: After completing the task correctly, he went to his cabin and tidied up a
bit. (gibilin ang tsinelas/ shoes)

Malubay: *knocks*

Tura: Come in!

Malubay: Are you okay? (nisulod sa kwarto nga nakasapatos)

(nitan aw sa sapatos sa kauban and medyo nasuko)

Tura: Hey! If you want to come in, can you please remove your shoes? (nasuko)

Malubay: What? I mean there's nothing wrong with this! We do this at our house,
you know

Tura: Excuse me? Well, in our culture, we don't do that, and it is so disrespectful.
Can you please leave me alone? You're not helping.

* Malubay got confused and nahadlok nga nigawas sa while nangalot sa buhok*

Bev (Narrator): This scenario showcases how the various barriers within the
Shannon-Weaver communication model—external noise, channel noise, semantic
misunderstanding, and cultural differences—can collectively shape the outcome of
communication interactions in a maritime context.
