1. Design Load:
Design load = (1.35 * dead load + 1.5 * Imposed load)
2. Select section (IF NOT GIVEN):
After calculating A, choose a section from excel sheet with at least
calculated A or higher

3. Find Class

c =h – 2 X (tf +r)
Cross-sections with a class 3 web and
class 1 or 2 flanges are classified as
effective Class 2 cross-sections

C =0.5 X (b – (2r+tw)
Cross-sections with a class 3 web
and class 1 or 2 flanges are
classified as effective Class 2
cross-sections

4. Cross-section Resistance

Change Ncrd from N to kN


Check: Nc,Rd > Design Load (NEd)
5. Buckling Resistance

YM1=1
Don’t forget to
change the Ncr
from kN to N
L= Lcr (pin-pin)
E= 210000 N/mm2
To change I from
cm4 to mm4, just
multiple I by 104
Don’t forget to
change the Lcr
from m to mm

Take Smaller I
(More critical)
