Class: VII
Ch-9 Section:
Triangle and its properties Date:

Triangle- A polygon with 3 sides.

A median of a triangle is the line that joins a vertex of the triangle to the midpoint of the
side opposite to the vertex of the triangle. Any triangle has three medians from its vertices.

An altitude is a line that starts from a vertex of a triangle and stretches till the opposite side
of the triangle, forming a right angle with that side of the triangle. Any triangle has three
altitudes from its vertices.

Observe the diagram:

Exterior angle property- If a side of a triangle is produced, then the exterior angle so
formed is equal to the sum of the two interior opposite angles.
d=b+c

Angle Sum property- Sum of all angles of a triangle is 180o

a + b + c =180o
1. Find the unknown values in each of the following-

2. If the sides of a triangle are produced in order, prove that the sum of the exterior angles
so formed is 360o.

3. One side of a triangle is produced, and the exterior angle so formed is 130 o. If the interior
opposite angles are in ratio 2:3, find the measure of each angle of the triangle.

4. In ΔPRQ, side QR is extended to S. If ∠PRS = 150o and RP=RQ, find the three angles of
ΔPRQ.

5. Each of the two equal angles of a triangle is twice the third angle. Find all the angles of
the triangle.

6. The angles of a triangle are in ratio 2:3:4, find the angles. Classify the triangle in 2
different ways.

7. The angles of a triangle are (2x+42)o, xo, (x-90)o. Find the value of x.

8. In the given figure, ΔACB is a right-angled triangle, right-angled at C and CD⊥AB. If

∠B = 40o, then find ∠BAC, ∠ACD and ∠BCD.

properties

Sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the third side.

The difference between the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is smaller than the length
of the third side.

Pythagoras Theorem

a2+b2=c2
(a, b and c are called Pythagorean triplets)

1. In the given figure, S is a point on the side QR of triangle PQR. Prove that
PQ + QR + PR > 2PS.

2. In the given figure, AM is the median of a triangle ABC. Prove that

AB + BC + CA > 2AM.

3. The lengths of two sides of a triangle are 7 cm and 11 cm. Between which two numbers
can the length of the third side fall?

4. Find the sum of all the angles of a hexagon.

5. A man goes 10m due east and then 24m due north. How far is he from the starting point?

6. A 15m long ladder reaches a window 12m high from the ground by placing it against a
wall. How far is the foot of the ladder from the wall?

7. Two poles of height 9m and 14m stand upright on a plane ground. If the distance between
their feet are 12m, find the distance between their tops.

8. Identify whether 6cm, 8cm and 10cm is a Pythagorean triplet or not?

9. In the given figure, find the value of x.

10. In an isosceles triangle BCD, shown below, BE is the median of the triangle. For BE to
be the altitude of the triangle as well, what should be the length of BE?

11. A tree is broken at a height of 5m from the ground and its top touches the ground at a distance
of 12m from the base of the tree. Find the original height of the tree.

12. Find the length of diagonal of a rectangle having sides 11 cm and 60 cm.

CASE-BASED

13. In a triangle the first angle is 10° less than twice the second angle and the third angle is
30° more than the second angle.
Based on the above information, answer the following:
(i) Find all the angles.
(ii) Which angle is smaller?
(iii) Write the sum of the supplementary angle of first angle and complementary angle of
second angle.

14. Raju planted two neem seeds on his third birthday. And they both started growing into
plants soon. There was a river flowing between these plants. After 25 years, when Raju
visited that place, he saw two big neem trees. The two trees were 7m and 4 m standing
upright on the ground. The distance between their roots is 4m apart.
Based on the above information, answer the following:\
(i) Which property can be used to find the distance between the top of the trees?
(ii) Find the distance between the top of the trees?
