1.

Assuming a container shown is large and losses are negligible, compute the distance where the
free jet leaving horizontally will strike the floor when y=0.5H. H = 3 m.

2. A water tank has a leak at the bottom which causes the water surface to drop from elevation
5.88 to elevation 5.57 in a period of 14 hours. If no water other than the leaking water is either
added or drained from the tank and the bottom of the tank is at elevation 1 m. What will be the
elevation of the water surface in the tank after a week (starting from elevation 5.88) in m?

3. A rectangular suppressed weir of length 1 m is constructed or cut at the top of a tall rectangular
tank having a horizontal section 20 m x 20 m If the initial head over the weir is 1 m. Compute the
time required to discharge 72 cu meter of water.
4. Two tanks A and B of surface areas 600 mm2 and 300 mm2 are connected by an orifice of 0.18
m2 in cross section. If the pressures in the tank A and B are 50 kPa and 35 kPa respectively, find
the rate of flow in L/s at the instant when the water levels in the tank A is 2.5m higher than that
in tank B. Take C = 0.64
