count, read, write, recognize, and represent whole numbers up to 100.
C. Learning Competencies: The learners
● count up to 10 (includes counting up or down from a given number and
identifying a number that is one more or one less than a given number);
● read and write numerals up to 10; and
● recognize and represent numbers up to 10 using a variety of concrete and
pictorial models.
D. Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:

● read and write numerals 0 to 10 in symbols.

Before/Pre-Lesson Proper
Activating Prior Knowledge Get learners’ intuitive idea of “nothing” to help in
the discussion.
Lesson Purpose/Intention Tell the learners that the lesson is about the
number 0.
Lesson Language Practice nothing, zero, one, two, three, four, five, six,
seven, eight, nine, ten,
straight line, curve line, circle, to the right, slant,
going down
During/Lesson Proper

Developing Understanding
of the Key Idea/Stem Do you eat vegetables, my dear pupils? Why?
Show the learners a kangkong stalk with 10
leaves.
Ask: How many leaves are in the stalk?
How do you know it is ten?
Show them a tray and ask them to see how many
leaves in it?
(Listen to the learners’ answers. It is possible that
they may give nothing, none, or zero as answers.
Take this chance to introduce the word zero to
mean none or nothing).
Write the symbol on the board to show that no leaf
is in the tray.
Let everybody read the numeral “0” as “zero.”
Ask 1 learner to pick one leaf from the stalk and
put it in the tray.
How many leaves are in the tray? How do you its
1?

(Write the symbol on the board using the blue-red-
blue lines to show the numbers correctly. Tell the
learners they will practice writing numbers in the
air using finger or hand. Demonstrate the stroke
of hand in the air while saying, 0“curve down,
curve up and close.

follow how you do it. Practice several times using
their show me board. Do it until the number ten.)
Ask: How many leaves are left in the stalk now?
Again, emphasize the concept of zero (0), which
means nothing.
Show real fruits (rambutan) of ten rambutans in a
tray.
(Do the same process as in the previous situation -
leaves in the kangkong stalk.
Deepening Understanding of A. Show numbers 0 to 10 written on the board

number names in Language 1 (L1), Language 2
(L2) and Language 3 (L3).
