CONTENT STANDARD: Demonstrates a command of conventions of standard English


grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in general and their functions in various discourse (oral and

through his/her understanding of Philippine Literature and other texts types for deeper
appreciation of Philippine Culture.

Use Adverbs (Adverbs of manner, place and time) in sentences

I. OBJECTIVES:

During the discussion, the students should be able to:


a. identify the different types of adverbs (manner, time, place);
b. explain the importance of using adverbs (manner, place and time) in our daily
life; and
c. make clear sentences using adverbs of manner, place and time

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activity

B. Motivation
“Charades Game” Group Activity
In this activity the teacher will pick a student to volunteer. Then the one who
volunteer will pick a word/adverbs word the and he/she will act it and his/her
classmates will guess the action she/he did if it is adverbs of manner, place and
time. The group that will get high points will be the winner.

C. Presentation/Discussion

Adverbs are words that modify a verb, an adjective, and another adverb.
Adverbs can be single words, phrases or clauses. Many adverbs end in ly, but not
all words ending in -ly are adverbs. When you use an adverb, you modify or
qualify the meaning of a verb, an adjective, or another verb.

Modify verb

Ex : My best friend drives carefully.


I went to the park yesterday.
I will meet you at 6 o’clock.

 Types of Adverbs

 Adverbs of Manner
Explain how action is carried out
Adverbs of manner are often adjectives with -ly added to the end, but
not all the time. They are usually placed either after the main verb or
after the object.

Examples:
Slowly Rapidly Badly Diligently Clumsily

*The learners should make sentences using adverb of manner.

 Adverbs of Place
Tell us where the action is done or happens.
These mainly modify verbs.
Usually placed after the main verb or after the clause that they modify.

Examples:
Here there near somewhere
Bottom Inside Outside behind

*The learners should make sentences using adverb of place.

 Adverb of Time
Tells when something happens, when something happened, or when
someone did something.
It may also tell for how long and how often the action is.
Adverbs of time have standard positions in a sentence depending on what
the adverb of time is telling us the action is.
Examples: Yesterday, Tomorrow, last week

D. Enhancement

Instruction: Identify the adverb and its type. Encircle the adverb and write its type on the
blank. (manner, time, or place)

Instruction: Post sentences that shows different examples of adverb of manner, place, and
Time. Then, let the students identify the whether it is adverb of manner, place, and time.

F. Generalization

The teacher will ask the following questions:

What is adverb?
What are the three types of adverbs?
What is adverb of manner?
What is adverb of place?
What is adverb of time?
Why is it important to learn the correct use of adverbs in our daily lives?
