B. Admission Requirements

Admission in MPhil and PhD Programmes at the Faculty of Law take place once a year as per the
university rules. Candidates with excellent academic records and research/teaching experience get
preference in the admission to the research programmes offered by the Faculty. Students graduated
from private universities must enroll into the MPhil programme first in order to be admitted into the
PhD programme as per the University Rules.

C. Duration of the Programme

MPhil: The duration of the MPhil Programme is two years whereas the first year is comprised of
course works and the second year is for thesis. The validity of MPhil registration is maximum four
years.

PhD: The validity of PhD registration is maximum five years. The researcher can submit the thesis
after four years. Also, the thesis may be submitted after three years upon due approval from
respective Supervisors as well as the Academic Council. Academic Committee may assign some
coursework to a PhD researcher. The faculty offers part time candidature opportunity for working
PhD researchers upon due approval from their respective employers.
Scholarships and Financial Aids

The Faculty of Law and the Department of Law offers various scholarship opportunities to the
students with outstanding academic records and the students in need in order to incentivize the
academic performance of the students.

A. Dean’s Award
i. Dean’s Merit List of Excellence: The list will include the names and particulars of students
having CGPA 4.0 in the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Final Examination.

ii. Dean’s Merit List of Honour: The list will include the names and particulars of students
having CGPA 3.85 and above in the Bachelor of Laws (Honors) Final Examination.

Provided that the students who have taken readmission or have taken any improvement
examination will not be considered for the dean’s list of meritorious students.

B. Shamaila Rahman Memorial Scholarship


Female students achieving the First and Second position in the merit lists in the year final
examinations are awarded with this Scholarship. In total six female students from 2nd, 3rd and 4th
year of Undergraduate programme and two female students from Graduate programme shall be
awarded with this scholarship on annual basis. Total number of scholarship is eight per year. Each
successful awardee shall get a lump sum amount of BDT 36,000.

C. Professor Dr. Hamid Uddin Khan Memorial Scholarship


Five outstanding/regular/meritorious/disable students promoted and admitted into the second year
Bachelor of Laws (Honors) are awarded with this scholarship. Selected five students will be given this
one time scholarship on lump sum basis. The amount of scholarship varies each year in accordance
with the interest rate of the Fixed Deposit.

D. Shahjahan Siraj Foundation Scholarship


All the students stood first in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year final examinations as well as the student
stood first in the LLM final examination shall be awarded with this scholarship. The amount of
scholarship is BDT 2500 per month and shall be awarded on lump sum basis annually, i.e. BDT
(2500×12) = BDT 30,000 to each awardee. Total number of scholarship is five each year.

E. Other awards and scholarships


i. Justice Amin Ahmed Gold Medal: It is awarded to the student who secures the first position at LLM
examination.
ii. Justice Mohammad Hussain Memorial Gold Medal: It is awarded to the student who obtains the
highest marks in the Constitutional Law course.
iii. OzairFarooque Scholarship: It is awarded to the student who obtains the highest marks in the Law
of Contract course.
