Skills:

Entry Requirements:
One must be over 18 and have a full car license.
Good eyesight. A competent level of English and Math for the LGV English theory test
and pass the medical associated with the LGV test.
The LGV license is divided into two categories:
Category C1: able to drive rigid vehicles up to 7.5 tones.
Category C: able to drive rigid vehicles over 7.5 tones.
Additional test. Category C+E: allows to drive with trailers.
The course for the LGV license generally lasts between one to three weeks. It includes
things like:
Driving skills, learning how to load and secure loads, basic mechanics, vehicle safety,
manoeuavres, road driving for 25 miles, theory test based around both highway code
and LGV regulations.
Alongside LGV license one needs a Driver CPC.
A theory test, a case study test, a dprariving ability test, and a practical demonstration.
Competence: Every 5 years the driver needs to undertake an additional 35 hours of
driver CPC training, which must be done every year after the age of 65?.

A truck driver earns up to 18,000 to 22,000 pounds per annum. With experience it is
possible to raise that number to 28,000 pounds per annum.
If a truck driver has become a specialist fuel or chemical tanker driver could earn up to

To drive different types of loads you need different training and qualifications:
Transport dangerous goods like chemicals: Gain ‘Advisory Dangerous Goods by Road
Certificate (ADR).
Initial training is usually completed within 5 days and the certificate must be renewed
every five years.
Transporting aggregates like concrete or other materials associated with extractive and
mineral processing industries: MPQC Drivers Skills Card.
Truck Drivers can become Dangerous Goods Safety Advisors: Employed by freight
companies to ensure legal requirements are being met and followed. (Protectionist

The training for this is provided by Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the Freight
Transport Association (FTA).
The RHA and FTA offer CPC instructor training and Operators CPC which will allow you to
move into transport management roles.
If a LGV driver has been qualified for at least three years, one could apply to be an LGV
instructor.

Truck drivers in the US travel over 430 billion miles per year.

With population growth, greater goods consumption and increased demand from e-
commerce and online shopping these number will continue to grow.
They are away from their homes and families for extended periods of time.
There are 500 thousand accidents in the US. 16% of those are caused by truck drivers.

Importance of Truck Drivers during Pandemic
During the pandemic groceries and essential supplies are delivered to who needs them
by truck drivers.
Doing so they are risking their lives as they take out supplies from the cramped stores
and supermarkets and deliver them to areas with high cases of infections.
Sure, they can wear masks and gloves, but trhey can’t do anything about anyone
unexpectedly coughing or coming close to them.
Food trucks are now traveling to more residentials areas to deliver food to people who
don’t want to cook or have planned to order food in.
Food trucks are also positioned outside hospital and police checkpoints to provide
meals, coffee, and snack to front liners such as doctors and nurses.
Government and non-profit sponsored food trucks also offer free meals in low-income
communities, temporary shelters, and evacuation sitese.
In some poor communities with not enough water supply, water trucks that transport
large water containers also help residents drink safe water and wash their hands or take
a shower.
Garbage collection and disposal has been of huge importance during the pandemic.
More garbage has been produced during the pandemic due to the home quarantine and
increase in people’s diet.
The frequency of garbage collection and disposal have increased.
