Our requirements vary greatly depending on the credential. Visit our website for a list of our credentials and a detailed
description of their requirements. You will want to check the requirements prior to beginning your certification or
credential journey to become familiar with the steps to be successful in achieving that credential.

Below is a check list of possible requirements to help you with your credential journey:

Course Work and Training


Examples of course work and training that may qualify towards your credential include:
AMPP courses
• Traditional In-person (some courses include hands-on practical training)
• On-line and eCourses
• Ethics for the Corrosion Professional eCourse

Please note: Many courses have prerequisites that must be met prior to enrollment.

Academic Requirements
Many credentials require higher education including:
• College degrees
• Post-high school math or science, Technical Trade school
• Professional Licenses

Credential Exams
Current exams that may be required and their delivery methods include:

• Written/Theory Exams – delivered via computer-based testing through Pearson VUE or through Examity re-
mote online exam proctoring.
• Practical hands-on Exams – delivered at the end of an in-person course or at an independent testing facility.
• Case-based Exams – delivered via computer-based testing.
• NDA (non-disclosure agreement) – All candidates are required to agree to an NDA prior to taking an exam.

Work Experience
• Some credentials may not require work experience, but it is important to understand these requirements prior to
beginning your credentialing journey.
• Most credentials require some level of documented and verifiable work experience to be submitted before or
during the application process. Work experience can range from 2 to 12 years depending on the level of creden-
tial that you are pursuing. There are also some paths that offer a combination of work experience and academic
requirements.

Application Process
Please note ALL credentials require acceptance of current AMPP Terms of Service, Candidate Agreement, and Code of
Professional Conduct

• Entry level certifications and micro-credentials do NOT require an application detailing work experience
(subject to change without notice).
• Mid and high-level certifications that require academic requirements and work experience require these details
to be completed during the application process. For your convenience, you can add work and academic details in
your My Certification Portal profile at any time prior to applying or during the application process. For academic
details, a place is provided to upload a copy of your degree for verification purposes.
• Qualification References will be required during the application process with a minimum of two qualified
references needed who can provide an assessment of your professional experience. This is an automated
request that is sent to the individual via email through the application system.
• Application Review Process: all applications are subject to approval by a review board.
• Required Credentials that are needed to meet the requirements for a new credential must be active.

Please note application fees may apply. Candidates have 4 years to meet all requirements towards a certification. For
example, if you meet the first requirement Jan 1, 2021 you will have until Dec 31, 2025 to complete all requirements.
Each requirement is valid for 4 years.

Credential Renewal
Most certifications and qualifications require renewal every 3 years. There may be some variances to this time so
check your My Certification Portal for details. Reminder notices are emailed 90, 60 and 30 days prior to your expira-
tion date. Please keep your email address current in your AMPP profile to make sure you receive reminders. Howev-
er, it is the candidate’s responsibility to renew by the expiration date.

Renewal requirements vary by credential but typically include the following:

• Professional development hours – are required for most credentials after attaining the credential or since
last renewal.
• Ethics training requirement – this can be met by taking the AMPP eCourse or by submitting equivalent
training.
• Work experience – this must be experience in an associated field since the last credential renewal and is
typically a minimum of 18 months to 2 years. Qualification renewals may require proof of audits conducted.
• Acceptance of AMPP Terms of Service and Candidate Agreement and Code of Professional Conduct.
• Renewal Fees – rates are determined by member/non-member status.

Please note: If you allow your certification to lapse reinstatement rules and fees will apply.

Applicator and Craftworker Credential Checklist
Course work and training
Examples of course work and training include:

• Traditional in-person
• On-line, virtual, and eCourses

Some courses also include labs and hands-on practical training. Many courses require work experience or other
training prerequisites to be completed prior to attendance.

Credential Exams
Most certifications require one or more exams. Examples of the different types of exams are:
• Written/Theory Exam (these may be delivered in-person at an event via paper/pencil, delivered via computer-
based testing at a Pearson VUE test center, or through an online proctoring service)
• Practical hands-on Exam (delivered at the end of an event or course or at an independent testing facility)
• Inspection Plan (delivered at the end of an event or course)
Note: You will be required to sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) prior to receiving or beginning any exam

Work Experience
• Most certifications require some level of work experience.
• In some instances, it is required to have the work experience prior to beginning your certification journey.
• Required work experience must be related to the certification you are pursuing and meet the minimum hours of
experience required which varies by program and level.

Application Process
Applications may consist of the following items:
• Acceptance of AMPP Terms of Service, Candidate Agreement and Code of Professional Conduct (required for all levels)
• Proof of Education requirements
• Work experience details and contact information for verification purposes
• Qualification references
• Application fee (where applicable)
• Photo

form. Applications are subject to approval through staff or a professional review board process.

Credential Renewal (Craftworker/SSPC Renewals)


Most credentials require renewal every 3 to 5 years. Your documentation reflects the expiration date of each. Reminder
notices are emailed 90, 60, and 30 days prior to your expiration date. Please keep your email address current in your
AMPP profile to ensure you receive reminders. However, it is the candidate’s responsibility to complete the renewal
