Create a new presentation 3
1. Select the File tab to go to Backstage view.
2. Select New on the left side of the window, then click Blank Presentation.
3. A new presentation will appear.

Create a new presentation from a template
1. Click the File tab to access Backstage view, then
select New.
2. You can click a suggested search to find templates or use

the search bar to find something more specific. In our
example, we'll search for the keyword chalkboard.
3. Select a template to review it.

4. A preview of the template will appear, along
with additional information on how the template can be
used.

1. Select the File tab to go
to Backstage view, then
click Open.
2. Click Browse. Alternatively, you
can choose OneDrive to open
files stored on your OneDrive. 2

Save a new presentation 1
• On the File tab, select Save. 2
• Do of the following:
• To save to your local drive, such as your laptop, a flash
drive, CD or DVD drive, select Computer.

Save your presentation file in a
different file format

• Under Save As, do one of the following:
• Under Recent Folders, select Browse, pick a
path and file folder, and then name the file.
• In the Save as type list, pick the file format
that you want.
• Select Save. 4

Add slides 1
• Select the slide you want your new slide to follow.
• Select Home > New Slide. 3
• Select a layout.
• Select the text box and type.

Delete slides
• Select your slide.
• You can delete one or more slides at once:
• Single slide - Right-click and select Delete Slide.
• Multiple slides - Hold Ctrl and select the slides you want then right-click and select Delete
Slide.
• Sequence of slides - Hold Shift and select a sequence of slides then right-click and
select Delete Slide.

the header to add title and
type your text.

Reuse content in slides
1. On the Home tab, in the Slides group, click New
Slide, and then click Reuse Slides.

2. In the Reuse Slides pane, click Open a
PowerPoint File.
3. In the Browse dialog box, locate and click the
presentation file that contains the slide that you
want, and then click Open. 2

Change the slide layout
• Select the slide that you want to change the 1
layout for.
• Select Home > Layout.
• Select the layout that you want.
• The layouts contain placeholders for text,
videos, pictures, charts, shapes, clip art, a
background, and more. The layouts also
contain the formatting for those objects, like
theme colours, fonts, and effects.

Change the presentation view and the slide size 1
• To change the slide size:
• Select the Design tab of the toolbar ribbon.
• Select Slide Size near the far-right end of the toolbar.
• Select Standard (4:3 aspect ratio) or Widescreen (16:9)
or Custom Slide Size.
• For more about the predefined sizes (including formats like
Overhead, A3, A4, Banner, B4, and B5) or your own
custom sizing, click here!

• Select the Design tab.
• Select one of the Themes. 1
• Select one of the Variants.

Edit the slide design 1
Use PowerPoint Designer
• Insert one or more pictures, a
list of items, or a list of dates.
• The Designer panel will open.
Select the design you want.
• You can also bring up Designer
by selecting a picture, and then
selecting Design > Design
Ideas.
Create a portfolio using
PowerPoint Slides
Your slides should include:
1. Name
2. Class
3. Subject
4. Content of portfolio
(You’re allowed to use multiple slides)
