Explain two reasons why healthcare
professionals use protective gloves when
treating patient
1
To reduce the risk of contamination of healthcare
worker hands with blood and body fluids, including
contact with mucous membranes and non-intact skin
2
When indicated as part of contact precautions, to
reduce the risk of transmission of infectious agents
to the patient's environment and to other patients
Describe the steps taken to safely
remove protective gloves
With both hands gloved, grasp the outside of one
glove at the top of your wrist, being careful not to
touch your bare skin. Peel off this first glove,
peeling away from your body and from wrist to
fingertips, turning the glove inside out. Hold the
glove you just removed in your gloved hand.
