IV INTRODUCTION

Before our academic year come to end, our university carries out a

webinar or summit under to our Professional Development course for only

students who enrolled in the College of Information Technology and Computer

studies. This webinar took days of preparation and was held in a Zoom

meeting and Microsoft Teams.

The first speaker of the webinar entitles CITS 10th Summit “A series of

Professional Development Webinar design to learn digital Transformation and

practices ICT” which focus the topic of “Research in Computing Science and

Maximizing the use of Technology in Reference Search and management “held

on June 22, 2022 via Zoom meeting by our school Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng

Muntinlupa specifically the Information Technology and computer studies

department.

Ms. Amanda Jane Menta, is the first speaker of the webinar. Ms.

Amanda Jane Menta is very whelmed with the number of Students who

participate the webinar. More or less 1000 students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod

Muntinlupa Participate. The first topic that Ms. Amanda Jane Menta is all about

“Research in Computing Science and Maximizing the use of Technology in

Reference Search and management “. But first she first said that the objective

of the seminar is to Demonstrate skill to design data collection instrument and

research process. And the next is Able to interpret data into meaningful

information, Explain the purpose of research, Contribute new knowledge of your

discipline. To understand basic concepts about research such as research

model and theory. To understand that research is a scientific method to acquire

knowledge and computing solution and she will also tackle the topic explains

the different research approach method and last topic she will going to discuss

in the webinar is maximize the use of technology in reference search and

research management.

Among those topics Ms. Amanda Jane Menta gave us the quick

recap about Definition, concepts and over view of research. She said that

research is a careful or diligent research. It is studious inquiry or a examination

especially research is a investigation or experimentation aimed to discover and

interpret facts, revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new facts or

practical application such new or revised theories or laws. It needs to be

systematic process of collecting and analyzing information to increase our

understanding of the world in general and of a phenomenon under study in

particular. And to get those answers you need to collect information about

particular subject by conducting survey compose of Questions.

In short research is a way of investigation and permutation, it is an

organized inquiry carried out to provide information for solving problems and

looking for solution which can be used as basis for policy formulation and policy

enhancement or for improvements. Research can be the foundation of all

innovation of new facts and inventions that we’ll going to have. And she

answers the question “why conduct research”. She said she stated that we

need to conduct research you become better informed, less bias in discussions

because it answers the W H questions which is the WHAT, WHY, WHICH. And

HOW. There are types of research can be applied in conducting once we have

the validated problem that is the time we can choose our type of research can

be applied. Such as basic research, applied research, and in creating

conceptual framework, technology acceptance can be used to technically

assess the measurement or the acceptably features of the technology that we

are going to use when we’re going to have a solution. With this one we are

going to access the numbers of errors reduction, and ass well the graphical

user interface of the software created. This technology acceptance model

shown by Ms. Amanda Jane Menta, is technically used for our assessment of

the acceptability of the system created.

The conceptual frameworks can be used as a guide of the researchers

in understanding the research phenomena or the research problem. She said

once the problem has been identified, that is the time that we can already pick

the conceptual framework that can be used as a guide for the research process.

Conceptual framework can also be used in building an existing theory or prior

experience of the researchers. And it is accepted or modified after the collected

empirical data is analyzed and interpreted. Empirical data is the observation we

have in a simple scenario or in a simple phenomenon according to Ms. Amanda

Jane Menta. After we composed our conceptual framework, we can proceed

making our hypothesis.

After creating, verifying and validating the problem. There is a

validated problem you need to bucked up with appeared review references and

after that you can now conceptualized your hypothesis. Hypothesis is the

researchers guess or tentative solution about the problem which later be prove

after gathering empirical data, it is the solution we are trying to working on. To

solve the problem that we have. Supported by the gathered data by the

researchers.

Ms. Amanda Jane Menta present a research model. According to

her, it is the prove that research is really a systematic process. Research is

always starts in real world situation or pheromonal. By using our own

experiences we can encounter a problem by simply observing and using our

senses , and that problem can be applied as a real world scenario or problem.

that problem might develop theory, innovation and most important is it can

create new knowledge . and with that we can already make our research as

scientific method.

Research is a Scientific method by the way of asking and answering

scientific question thru making an observations and doing experiments. The

answers that we are going to collect is called the societal problem that the

researchers need to solve. There are scientific process that we can guide us to

successfully finish our research. Just follow the systematic scientific process.

So after that it is very important to communicate the result of your study publish

the result and spread it to a lot of people might need the knowledge you’ve

gained from the research you conducted.

Types of research are also tackled in the webinar, there are two types

of research. The qualitative method and the quantitative method.

Quantitative research methods intends to falsifies an existing theory it

also uses deductive method of knowledge of acquisition that tries to generate

objective and generalizable knowledge. It is quantifiable. You need to use

number or you need to count, in order to represent data and it is part of

standard measurement. We tend to apply statistical methods to interpret the

data. A process collecting and analyzing data in numerical form. On the other

half the qualitative method.

Qualitative research method a process of naturalistic inquiry that seeks

an in-depth understanding of social phenomena within their natural setting. It

tries to build theories from bits of data follows inductive method of knowledge

acquisition. It accepts justifies true belief rather than mechanistic objective

knowledge. It focuses on the "why" rather than the "what" of social phenomena

and relies on the direct experiences of human beings as meaning-making

agents in their everyday lives

Researchers can use both quantitative research method and qualitative

research method and it gave as mixed methodology and it is the other type of

research.

After you know what research method are you going to use in your study

You may now proceed to make the design of your study that you are planning

to have. Then you proceed to your design computing solution as science. In this

part design is both a process of creating something new and a product. The

main outputs must be either construct model, algorithms or instantiations or

algorithm codes or you can combine it both.

Then second part of Ms. Amanda Jane Menta presentation is the topic

all about “Maximizing the use of Technology in Reference search and in

Research Management”.

She introduce to us some of the applications used by other researchers

to have a quality type of research as well as research management. She

introduce those tools and application that can be use by us researchers and

apply it when we conduct our own research. We need those application or tools

for us to be able to make a research, a key to a quality research.

According to Bulusan, 2019. “The quality of your paper depends on

the quality of your refences”. When you have a quality references in your

research paper, your research paper itself a quality research. One of the most

helpful and most relevant sources of quality reference is the “Internet”.

Internet offers us a worldwide array of helpful, powerful tools to look for

quality references. But always check if your source are have credibility

because not all of things on internet are reliable and if don’t do it. The quality of

your research will disappear.

Some of the references or application and software’s are can we use

to provide or locate a quality reference to site sources properly. Actually there

are a lot of application web application and software we can use. But she only

gave the most common used by the researchers and most credible source of

quality reference. And always remember the validity of your reference is based

on the date it was published. The earlier it publish the quality of it is most

relevant.

The first Site Ms. Amanda Jane Mentas is the most popular, the Google

Scholar. What is Google Scholar used for? Google Scholar provides a simple

way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search

across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and

court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online

repositories, universities and other web sites. Google scholar can provide us a

relevant references so we can able to make a relevant research paper.

Next is the Harzing’s Publish or perish. Harzing’s Publish or Perish is

a software that can be use to locate references that is related to your topic. It is

like a map but it not locate places. It locates most of the relevant reference or

studies you might be use as your reference to your research.

The next one is Taylor & Francis Group. When you are looking for a

quality peer-reviewed journal. You can just check it in the web [Link] is a

Informa's Academic Markets and Knowledge Services business. Taylor &

Francis Group is one of the world's leading publishers of advanced, emergent

and applied academic research and knowledge, championing communities of

academics, researchers, experts and knowledge makers all over the world.

As well as ERIC. ERIC is an internet-based library for educational

research and information. What is ERIC used for? ERIC or the Educational

Resources Information Center is the world's most widely used index to

educational-related literature. Established in 1966, ERIC is supported by the

U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences. They are

already have millions of published works since there.

Also, the Science Direct. It host over 12 million pieces of content from

over 3500 academic journals and 34,000 e-books. ScienceDirect is a website

which provides subscription-based access to a large database of scientific and

medical research. The journals are grouped into four main sections. Physical

Sciences and Engineering, Life and Sciences, Health Sciences and Social

Sciences And Humanities.

The PEJ or the Philippine E-Journals. It is a local collection of or a local

online collection of academic publication in different higher education and

institution that we can use. The Philippine E-Journals is an expanding collection

of academic journals that are made accessible globally through a single Web-

based platform. It allows the user to easily locate abstracts, full journal articles

and links to related research materials.

The DOAJ or the Directory of Open Access Journals. It was launched

way back 2013 at Lund University, Sweden with over 300 open access journals.

As of today the independent data base of DOAJ contains over 12,000 open

access of journals covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social

science and humanities. DOAJ is a community-curated online directory that

indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed

journals.

We can also use the EBSCOhost. It is a research data base use to

compile all the kind of information from different research platforms from

different research institution and million users of it. The EBSCOhost interface

provides access to a range of databases, e-journals and e- books. The

databases are particularly useful for identifying journal articles and other

publications on a particular topic within the subject areas covered by each

And the Academia. Over 8 million published papers are accessible in this

site. They sharing their papers and giving all of us access for free. Academia’s

goal is to ensure that every paper, ever written, is on the internet, available for

provide signals regarding the trustworthiness of papers, and the trustworthiness

of individual claims within papers.

Next is the Paperity. This site allows you to search over a million full

text papers across a wide variety of different disciplines. The best thing about

paperity is. It is completely free charge for students, so all the student may

enjoy full access to paperity anytime and anywhere where internet can reach. It

was launched in October 2014 with 160,000 articles.

ResearchGate. The Research gate is a social network for students and

scientist. A social networking site for scientists and students is called

“ResearchGate.” Since the community has more than 10 million members, they

can publish and read papers,. ResearchGate was created to make it easier for

researchers and scientists to collaborate, communicate, and share information.

This platform makes it possible to publicly share, privately store, and privately

share different kinds of content.

ResearchGate does not accept articles or papers for publication

because it is not a publisher. Instead, members can, if they have the necessary

permissions, track their publications, keep private copies, or make their

published or unpublished works publicly accessible on ResearchGate.

We also have the Infoplease. It is a reliable source of information for

students. It is like an online dictionary or encyclopedia

There are online citation generators that can help us to improve our

citation of our references. One of it is the CiteFast.

Citefast is a bibliography and citation generator that is available online

and for free. It is a tool allows us to easily create citations in latest edition of

APA, MLA and the Chicago citation format.
