Hi Colleague,

I appreciate your wise post on the role of telemedicine in promoting patient flow in

healthcare settings and utilizing the CINAHL Plus database. It is indeed impressive that your

strategy is to filter out the search results with Boolean phrases and concentrate on modern

publications (Hopia & Heikkilä, 2020). I would like to contribute several options that are derived

from my experience and provide other sources as possible alternatives, such as exploring MeSH

terms, using advanced search features, using filters and limits, exploring other databases,

examination of reference lists and cooperating with librarians.

Exploring MeSH terms is also essential to find reliable data. Along with the use of

Boolean phrases, try looking at MeSH terms, such as CINAHL Plus. MeSH terms allow you to

narrow the search further and ensure that all relevant telemedicine and patient flow articles are

covered (DeMars & Perruso, 2022). Additionally, CINAHL Plus has an advanced search function

where one can narrow their research to meet specific criteria. Use proximity searching,

truncation, and field-based searches to make your results more precise. Moreover, using

CINAHL Plus filters limits filter results according to the publication type, study type, or age

group to adjust search results for individual needs and emphasize high-quality, relevant studies

only.

According to the research carried out by Oermann et al. (2021), exploring other databases

such as PubMed, Scopus, and PsycINFO can provide different points of view and a wider variety

of articles that contribute to a complete literature review. Additionally, after determining the

critical articles, check their bibliographies. This may find you other relevant sources that would

have yet to be discovered during the initial search, but they are cited by respected authors in the
3

subject area. Librarians are invaluable resources, and they can help with searching effectively.

Consider reaching out to the library staff at your institution for personalized assistance in

navigating databases and refining your search.

What challenges or successes did you have in implementing advanced search techniques

like MeSH terms within databases such as CINAHL Plus and others?
