Part 1
1. Recall the details about the kernel components of a Windows operating system (OS). Based
on the figure below, select three (3) kernel components that you think are the most significant
in terms of process control.
Plug-and-play Manager
Power Manager
I/O Manager
2. Give one (1) sample process that can be executed by each kernel component you have
selected. Explain each sample process relative to its corresponding process control structure.
Perform additional research if necessary.
Power Manager:
The power manager, considered to be a subcomponent of the I/O manager, manages the
orderly change in power status for all the devices that support power state changes, done
through a complex stack of devices controlling other devices.
I/O Manager:
The I/O manager, being the heart of the I/O system, connects applications and system
components to virtual, logical, and physical devices. Also, the I/O manager defines the
infrastructure that supports device drivers.
Select a computing device or a gadget (i.e., smartphone, tablet, and laptop) that you currently
have access to. Then, answer the following items:
Part 2
a. What is the operating system of the device? (2 points)
Realme 6i
b. What is the total memory capacity (RAM) of the device? (2 points)
3.00 RAM
c. What is the available or remaining memory capacity (RAM) of the device? (2 points)
Available 315 MB
d. Enumerate five (5) running application processes in the device. Select applications that
consume high memory utilization. Indicate the memory allocation for each process. (5 items x 2
points)
GrowCastle – 368 MB
Youtube – 203 MB
Chrome – 314 MB
Facebook – 216 MB
Messenger - 211 MB
e. Enumerate five (5) running background processes or system processes in the device. Select
processes that consume high memory utilization. Indicate the memory allocation for each
process. (5 items x 2 points)
Android operating system – 0.99 GB
Android System – 174 MB
System UI – 119 MB
System launcher – 81 MB
System Messages – 22 MB
f. Which has higher memory utilization in your device, the background/system processes or the
application processes? Briefly explain the condition of processes in your device to support your
answer. (Essay: 5 points)
Android operating system is the highest because it needs high memory utilization to process
other systems and applications.
g. Give three (3) possible ways to connect your device to other devices. Describe each in one (1)
sentence. (3 items x 3 points)
Bluetooth
Wifi
Phone’s USB cable
h. Does the process of connecting your device to other devices create new processes? Why or
why not? (Essay: 5 points)
Tthe process does not lead to another process as after the process of connection there exists
other underlying processes that need to be implemented to achieve the aim of establishing the
connection. For this reason, the establishment of a connection cannot be considered the
gateway to other operations.
i. What are the possible effects of ending (force stop) multiple processes in your device?
Elaborate on your answer. (Essay: 5 points)
Force stop will remove the services from the ram but it has chances that app will run again.
But force stopping a third party apps will work differently. It will stop and the app will not start
automatically until you open the app again
j. Describe the functionality of your device in the less-privileged mode. (Essay: 5 points)
The functionality of the less privileged mode on my smartphone is poor, to say the least
because through that it becomes laggy every time my phone is connected to the internet and
because of my low-grade processor my display fps drops always and it doesn't work well but it
is usable.
k. Identify at least two (2) ways on how you can terminate processes in your device and briefly
describe each. (Essay: 5 points)
2 ways to terminate processes in my device
In my phone I can use the process manager to deep clean systems and third-party apps or I can
terminate what apps or system I want to make my system run smoothly.
In my computer I can use Task Manager – the task manager is an advanced tool in windows that
can open a number of tabs that allow you to monitor running applications and processes. All
you need is to identify the problem, right-click the process and ending the task to terminate.
