iii. Shopkeeper
iv. None of these

e. Students use computer for

i. Preparing projects
ii. Preforming operations
iii. Preparing bills
iv. None of these

Answer the following.

Q-1 How computer are useful in a school library?
Ans. Uses of computer in school library are;
i. Maintaining record of all the books available in the library.
ii. Keeping record of issue and return of books.
Q-2. What is the use of an ATM?
Ans. An ATM (Automated Teller Machine) is a machine used by banks. It allows people to take out money from
their bank account at any time of day.
Q-3. Are there any skills that you are not using anymore because of computer?
Ans. I am not using skills like writing letters, as email have replaced the need,
i. It is much easier to use online dictionaries then using a real dictionary.
ii. Instead of writing cheques we can easily withdraw money from an ATM.

Q-4. Before computer all official records such as school report cards, were either handwritten or typed using
type writer? How has the use of computer in school changed this? Is it beneficial for you or for the
school? Give reasons for your answer.
Ans. The use of computer is beneficial for the schools because they can make school report cards efficiently. The
teacher can save a lot of time as they do not have to calculate student marks manually. It is beneficial for both
the school and also for me. It saves a lot of time and makes work easier.
Q-5. Do you think that computers have made places like shopping malls, airports and hotels more secure in
today society? Justify your response with good example.
Ans. Computers have made places like shopping malls, airports and hotels more secure in today society with the
use of CCTV cameras and surveillance system. The recording of a crime scene also helps police in
investigations.
CHAPTER-2
INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES

1. Choose the correct option.

a. A device use to take the output on paper.
i. Printer
ii. Monitor
iii. Joystick
iv. None of these

b. An input device used to take video with sound and still photographs.
i. Printer
ii. Digital camera
iii. Scanner
iv. None of these
c. It reads and scans text and picture directly into the computer.
i. Monitor
ii. Printer
iii. Scanner
iv. None of these
d. Which of these is a pointing device?
i. Mouse
ii. Keyboard
iii. Monitor
iv. Printer
e. The output on a monitor is called ___________
i. Soft copy
ii. Hard copy
iii. Printout
iv. None of these

Answer the following.

Q-1. Differentiate between hardcopy and softcopy.
Ans. Hardcopy is the output produced on paper by a printer. Softcopy is the output on the monitor.
Q-2. What is the output device? Name any two output devices.
Ans. The devices through which we get an output from a computer are called output devices. Monitor and printer
are two examples of output devices.
Q-3. List four different prices of computer hardware found in your school’s computer lab. Are they essential
components? Justify your answer.
Ans. The list of four different pieces of computer hardware in our school’s lab is given below:
i. Keyboard
ii. Mouse
iii. Monitor
iv. CPU (Central Processing Unit)

Data is entered into the computer with the help of the keyboard or a mouse. The CPU then processes the data
and displays it on the monitor. Hence all parts of computer work together for effective functioning of the
computer.
Q-4. An architect is designing the floor plan of a house which do you think is the best input device to use for
this task? Will he need more than one type of input device?
Ans. The best input device an architect should use to design the floor plan of a house is a light pen. It enables the
architect to draw directly on the screen. Drawing with a light pen is easier than a mouse therefore he will not
need more than one type of input device.
Q-5. Cameras are often an integral part of a computer especially a laptop or hand held device. What are the
advantage and disadvantages of having a camera with in a computer?
Ans. ADVANTAGES AND EXAMPLES:
1. Camera within a computer allows us to make video calls, and enables long distance communication.
2. Camera helps in securing public places and households from crime.

DISADVANTAGES AND EXAMPLE

1. As the camera relies on internet speed, video quality can become low.
2. Camera can record videos which can get hacked or leaked on internet.

Common questions

Powered by AI

CCTV cameras managed by computer systems significantly impact crime investigation by providing real-time monitoring and recorded footage, crucial for evidence gathering and crime scene analysis. This technological integration enhances public safety by deterring crime through visible surveillance and assisting law enforcement in solving cases more effectively .

Robots controlled by computers perform diverse roles, such as aiding planetary exploration, assisting in medical operations, and handling hazardous chemicals. This versatility showcases the integration of computers in extending human capabilities across scientific, medical, and industrial domains, underlining the advancement and reliance on automated systems .

A scanner reads and digitizes text and images directly into a computer, playing a key role in document digitization and archiving. Conversely, a digital camera captures vivid images and videos, serving creative and surveillance needs. While both input devices capture visual information, their contexts of use and data formats differ significantly .

A light pen is considered the best input device for architects because it allows direct interaction with the screen, offering precise control and ease in drawing. This interface simplifies complex tasks compared to a mouse, thus optimizing design processes wherein accuracy and efficiency are paramount .

Computers have enhanced the security of public areas such as shopping malls and airports by enabling the use of CCTV cameras and surveillance systems, which help monitor activities and record crime scenes. This evidence can assist police in their investigations .

Hardcopy refers to the tangible output from a printer, used for permanent records and physical distribution. Softcopy is the electronic output on a monitor, preferred for editable and transient visualizations. Hardcopies are essential for legal documents, while softcopies are ideal for quick review and media sharing .

Replacing traditional skills with computer technology implies a shift towards more convenience and efficiency, such as using emails over writing letters or online dictionaries over physical ones, which offers quick access to information. However, it also suggests a potential decline in these manual skills, impacting cultural practices and personal development in literacy and problem-solving .

Integrated cameras in computers facilitate video calls, enabling remote communication which can streamline personal and professional interactions. They also contribute to security, offering surveillance at homes. However, they rely on internet speed, potentially lowering video quality, and pose privacy risks if recordings are hacked or leaked online, thereby requiring users to be cautious .

Computers have revolutionized the preparation of school report cards by allowing for efficient data processing and eliminating the need for manual calculations of student marks. This saves time for teachers and enhances accuracy, benefitting both the school by improving administrative efficiency and students who receive timely, error-free report cards .

ATMs, operating as computer-driven systems, enable users to withdraw money anytime, illustrating computers' capability to enhance accessibility and convenience in banking. They demonstrate how automation meets consumer needs while reducing human intervention, presenting a case of technological efficiency in transactional processes .
