PART I: DISCOVER MYSELF

1. Things that I am good at:

• Foreign languages: I have focused on learning English since elementary

school and I have participated in many competitions to improve my
knowledge about English. As a result, I have a decent background about
the language. I have acquired the International English Language Testing
System (IELTS) Certificate with the band score of 7.0 - which is
equivalent to level C1 of the Common European Framework of
Referencce for Languages - in 2020. Currently, I am also attending the
major related to English at the university. I am constantly improving my
English skills in order to achieve higher result when I retake my IELTS
test in 2023.
• Teaching skills: Besides studying at school, I utilize my time working as
a teaching assistant at an English center. At the center, I have the
opportunities to teach high school students, especially students of the 12th

grate who are preparing for the National High School Examination. After
two years of experience, I have strengthen my expertise and improved the
pedagogical skills: how to guide students on the effective methods to
study English.
• Computer skills: From my first days in the university, I have learned how
to use the basic office applications, notably Google Workspaces and
Microsoft Office. At present, I am capable of using Microsoft Word to
prepare mock tests for students and specific documents for the teachers.
Moreover, I am able to work with Powerpoint so I usually handle the task
of providing slides for a presentation. Adobe Premiere is also an
application I use in regular basis when I want to edit the videos related to
the English center I am working for.

2. Things that I like doing

After two years of university and practical experience, I can assure that I enjoy
teaching students. The value of the teachers cannot be underestimated. I always have
the mindset that without the teachers, I cannot achieve the things I have today.
Therefore, I have a strong desire to support the students the way my mentors have
coached me. On the other hand, I am also interested in working as an interpreter.
This job requires me to connect the Vietnamese companies with the foreign business
partners. By translating for my seniors what the other party wants to convey, I can
assist the company to reach beneficial agreements.

3. My work-related strengths

Thanks to the workshops and the field trip organized by the university, I found
out that I acquire these strengths below:

• Presentation skills: As long as I have careful preparation in advance, I

will have the background knowledge about the topic. Hence, I will be
able to speak in front of the crowd with confidence. I can guide the
emotions of the audience while conveying the content of the presentation.
• Working under pressure: I have already experience some of this situation
during my studies. By utilizing every resource available, I can deal with
tasks no matter how challenging they are. I believe these kinds of task
will give me the ability to push myself to break my limit and develop
even more.
• Communication skills: I have some special methods to “break the ice”
when I meet strangers. Thus I can make new friends without difficulty. I
am able to imagine myself in the situation or circumstances of other
people, so I can understand and empathize with their point of view. By

showing my emphathy towards other people, I can strengthen

relationships with my friends and my partners at work.

4. The qualities that I could bring to the job

• Determination: If a task is given to me, I will work tirelessly to complete

it. Every task, no matter how difficult it is, is a chance for me to show my
worth. That’s why I execute them with enthusiasm in order to get the job
done.
• Flexibility: I can cooperate with different kinds of characters and perform
well in a variety of roles. By adapting to diverse duties, I can make myself
much more useful. On the other hand, when the situation occurs suddenly,
I can improvise in order to achieve the best result possible.
• Creativity: After accomplishing a task, I am not satisfied with it yet. I try
to find more methods with the aim of making the task easier to complete.
When a problem arises, I find as many solutions as I can to deal with it
instead of waiting for the others to think for me.

5. What others might admire about me

• Personality: I like making new friends and I am very easy to get along.
Moreover, when my friends or partners need my assistance, I am ready to
lend a helping hand. Apart from supporting my teammates on their work,
I am also willing to listen to them when they have personal problems and
need someone to confide in. That is the way we strenghen our bond and
improve our chemistry.
• Eagerness to learn new things: I believe in lifelong study. Whether I am
in university or I have graduated, there will always be new things to
learn. When I see that my colleagues have something better than me,
instead of being jealous, I'm willing to learn from them to become a better
version of myself.
• Endurance: I do not have a habit of giving up what I do because I believe
that every problem has a solution, as long as I give all of my dedication
to it. No matter how complex the nature of the work, I always look for
ways to complete the work with the highest efficiency. When I help my
colleagues, I always think the same way. This not only helps you perfect
your skills, but it also helps you find people who are willing to help you
when you're in trouble.

6. What I focus on and how I approach life

I have determined my career path will be tied to English – the thing I like and
excel in. Therefore, my biggest priority is to constantly improve my knowledge
of English while studying at school and working as a teaching assistant. On the
other hand, I am learning the skills related to speaking English, since fluency is
one of the most crucial factors we need to possess if we want to have a successful
career in English.

About life approaching, I believe that I only live once and I was really lucky
to be born in this world. I always do everything with all my abilities whether I
succeed or fail so that I will never regret it when I look back at it. However,
proper planning prevents poor performance, so I always plan far ahead before I
do something, especially if it is a big project. Even though everything I do is for
long-term goals in the future, I don't forget to enjoy the moments at present.

7. Things that are important to me

All my important decisions are weighed through these four factors below:

Family: Family is important to me. My parents always support me to the

fullest and created maximum conditions for me to go to school and develop
myself. Not only that, family is a place where I can return whenever I experience
difficulties and stress during my studies and work. Therefore, I look forward to
working close to my family so I can take care of them as they get old.

Health: To complete the work in the most effective way, everyone needs to
be in good health. When choosing my career path, I will also avoid jobs that
require a lot of physical activity or other physically demanding jobs. In addition,
I will prioritize jobs where working time is flexible so that I can allocate working
time and rest effectively, thereby always maintaining the energetic state.

Personal Satisfaction: When you love a job, you put your time and energy
into it without anyone prompting you. You will always find joy in your work
and proactively learn more skills. I want to do work that I really love, because
that's when I'm going to be at my most productive.

Money: Money does not help us ensure a happy life, but without money we
cannot pursue happiness. I need a job with decent earnings, not only to cover the
expenses of life, but also to accumulate more savings for important
occasions. However, money is not as important as the aforemention factors,
because it is not worth if we have to work away from our family, do the job we
do not like or the job that have bad effects on our health.

English teacher: I have received sufficient value from my previous

teachers, which makes me become who I am now. Therefore, I wish to convey
my expertise and experience to benefit other students. With my dedication to
both English and helping others to succeed, I determine to become an English
teacher.

Interpreter: I am also into interpreting career. With my creativity, my

ability to adapt with different situations and my responsibility, I believe I can
take the position of an interpreter. Basically, I assist domestic enterprises in
reaching business agreements with foreign enterprises by translating the
requirements of the foreign partners into Vietnamese so that those in my
business can understand, from which the seniors will make appropriate offers
and I will translate them into English again.
