1. How did any of the characters or events remind you of yourself? Why? Explain
using a citation from the text.
The character that I like is Jay Gatsby because sometimes I feel lonely, as Gatsy felt lonely
when he was left by his friends and his girlfriend, but there is always someone standing with
me, for example, my family, as Nick was with Jay Gatsby in a difficult period. “I felt a
haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others-young clerks in the dusk, wasting the
most poignant moments of night and life.” (p. 43) .
2. If you were this character, how would the story change? Explain.
I won't give close value to people so they don't let me down, because Jay Gatsby places so
much value on his friends as the big parties he makes for her friends. If I were Jay Gatsby, I
would trust no one but myself.
3. What surprised or confused you about the characters or events? Explain using
a citation from the text.
I was surprised to learn that Nick succeeded in reuniting Jay Gatsby with Daisy even if he
knew some hidden facts like “some idea of himself … that had gone into loving Daisy” (p.
83).
4. What is the overall message of the book, as you see it? Explain using a citation
from the text.
The message of the writer is that Jay Gatsby learned to be rich and when he became
wealthy and gained social status , his dream was not fully realized, which is to have a future
with his true love Daisy, and his love for Daisy was a failure because she left him in a difficult
situation. “I wasn’t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity.” (p. 44)

There are no friends, acquaintances, or personal relationships besides Gatsby. Even his
sweetheart Daisy left him. Nick in the palace, which was not emptied of the sounds of hustle,
noise and luxury, found nothing but the sound of silence and betrayal and his loyal friend
alone, without money, prestige, or love .
I think this is the original meaning of the novel that human nature is cruel, so they are
around you and you are strong and in control. This is what tells us Nick Crow, who decided
to write the story of Gatsby and chronicles his traumatic experience and returns to his dream
and passion for writing to write the last lines of his novel, where he wrote, "The bright
morning brings us light on the way.. and the boats go against the tide to return to our steps
without stopping to the past". (p. 101)
