MANAGEMENT OF SCHOOLS THAT WILL SERVE AS VOTING CENTRES DURING THE 2024 GENERAL
ELECTIONS

1. This circular applies to schools that will serve as voting stations during the 2024 general elections.
2. Since 1994 general elections, a number of schools in the province of KwaZulu-Natal have been designated as voting
stations and the same will apply during the upcoming elections on 29th May 2024.
3. The Department understands that the IEC may require access to identified schools prior and after the election date.
4. To this end, teachers and general staff of the affected schools may have to handover the schools to IEC from Monday,
27th May 2024 until Friday 31st May 2024 so as not to interfere with the IEC process and for the safety and well-being of
learners.
5. It is advisable that learners of the affected schools stay at home until the general elections are over and principals are
requested to communicate this information to all relevant stakeholders including parents/guardians.
6. It is noted that the affected schools may lose learning and teaching time between 27th May and 31st May 2024. It is in that
regard that the principals of affected schools should ensure that learning recovery programmes are in place to assist
learners to catch up after the elections.
7. The Circuit Managers will be available to guide principals in managing schools during this period of elections.

Your co-operation is highly appreciated.
