3 Socio-economic factors that can affect studying –


Family Income Level: A family's financial status influences a number of
factors that can help or hinder a child in gaining an education. Wealthy
families have the financial resources to send their child to high-quality
schools, low-income families are limited mostly to public schools.
Parents' Level of Education: Parents' education level directly correlates to
the importance and influence of education in their children's lives.
Educated parents can assess a son or daughter's academic strengths
and weaknesses to help that child improve overall academic
performance.
Gender: Restrictions on education for girls and women are based on
gender bias prevalent with the culture. Some cultures will allow education
for girls and women but limit the content of the education or skew the
education to prepare them for a limited number of social roles.

What are the requirements for a bachelor’s pass for the NSC?
 Must obtain at least 40% for your Home Language (compulsory),
 Must obtain at least 50% for four other subjects excluding Life
Orientation,
 Must obtain at least 30% for Language of Learning and Teaching
(LOLT) of the tertiary (Higher Education) institution,

What are the requirements for a diploma pass for the NSC?
 Must obtain at least 40% for your Home Language,
 Must obtain at least 40% for three other subjects excluding Life
Orientation,
 Must obtain at least 30% for the Language of Learning and Teaching
(LOLT) of the tertiary institution (Higher Education Institution),
The advantage of having a grade 12 certificate given the current
South Africa we live in.
Learnerships- Learnerships aim to give matriculants a skill that can be used
in the working environment. If you don’t know what you want to study after
high school, this option is available to you.

Study Opportunities- Having a matric certificate gives you many study


opportunities. Even though every institution has its own entry requirements,
with a matric certificate this option is open to you. So depending on how
you pass, you can study at a university or college.

Entry Level Jobs- That’s right, you can apply for an entry level job straight
out of high school if you have your matric certificate. Most jobs in South
Africa have matric certificates as a minimum application requirement. There
is also a possibility that you can find employment without having a matric
certificate but you won’t be able to get a higher position.
