understand the behavior of the material under twisting. The modulus of rigidity and torsional shear
strength is determined by this test. To determine the modulus of rigidity. the torsion equation is used.
The torsion equation is based on the following assumptions.
1. The material of the shaft is uniform throughout.
2. The shaft is circular in section and remains circular after loading.
3. A plane section of the shaft normal to its axis before loading remains plane after application of
the torque.
4. The twist along the length of the shaft is uniform throughout.
