Independent Reading Project:

Due:

You must design a creative bookmark for your independent reading

choice. The design is entirely up to you; however, realize that your effort
will be evaluated when grading the reports. Please refer to the guidelines
below in order to develop your bookmark.

Genre: Adult Fiction, Nonfiction, Science Fiction/Fantasy, or a recent

Adult Bestseller
Page Minimum for Independent Choice: 225-250 pages

Your bookmark will include four parts:

1. Summary
2. Character details
3. Review
4. Related images

Front of bookmark:
1. Title
2. Author
3. Summary: Must mention at least four literary elements in your
summary. You must end with a statement explaining a theme
of the book. Do not reveal the conclusion!
4. Clip art or graphics pertinent to the book

Back of bookmark:
1. Character list with short description (characterization—not just
physical description)
2. Review of book: Use stars, thumbs up/down, etc.
3. Evaluation summary: Explain what you liked and/or didn’t like
about the book. Refer to literary elements when explaining why
you did/didn’t like the book. Examples: Upon their arrival to the
alien planet, I lost complete interest due to the unrealistic nature
of the setting. John’s ability to refrain from common teenage
banter is quite uncharacteristic of modern teenage boys; I failed
to relate to his character for this reason.
4. Clip art or graphics pertinent to the book

Please see the rubric on the back of this handout.
