ASSIGNMENT
(Teamwork)

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose between the following.

Option 1: The facilitator will ask the students to make a short video explaining the aim of the Teamwork.
Option 2: The facilitator will ask the students to draw tips for better teamwork.

1. People are both the source of joy and the source of problems
Humans are in the mix, regardless of the team or the reason for its existence, and each
team member takes all of their baggage with them, for good or for ill. As a result, a
diverse group of people come together with a variety of life experiences, unusual work
experiences, and varying degrees of success working with previous teams and
completing previous team tasks. They must work together to bring this variety together
while also focusing on a new objective.
2. You have the ability to assist your teams in succeeding
You can greatly improve the likelihood that the teams you join or lead will make the
necessary contributions. Teams may achieve success beyond your wildest dreams with
the right support and nurturing. Don't let anything get in the way of your team's
success. If you want your teams to achieve their maximum potential, you must
recognize and meet their basic requirements. If these fundamentals aren't in place, no
team will succeed.
3. The team has a clear understanding of its mission and objectives.
The crew is aware of the objectives and is dedicated to achieving them. Effective
teamwork requires clear direction and consensus on mission and purpose. Team
members must agree on an overall mission that serves as the foundation for everything
the team attempts to accomplish. When the organization has clear expectations for the
team's work, goals, accountability, and outcomes, this team clarity is reinforced.
4. Reasonable risks are encouraged in a team environment
The team fosters an environment in which employees feel free to communicate,
advocate for positions, and take action while taking reasonable risks. The members of
the team have faith in one another. Team members are not punished if they disagree; in
, debate is encouraged and valued.
5. Communication that is respectful is the norm.
Open, honest, and courteous communication is the norm. People are free to share their
ideas, opinions, and possible solutions to problems. People have the impression that
they are being heard and listened to by team members who are trying to understand
them. While their co-worker is speaking, team members ask clarifying questions and
spend their brain time listening deeply rather than formulating rebuttals. They
accomplish this by developing inquiries that will allow them to have a better
understanding of their teammates' perspectives.
6. A strong sense of commitment to the group
Members of the team have a strong sense of belonging. They feel a strong sense of
responsibility for the group's decisions and activities. When the team takes the effort to
define team rules or relationship guidelines together, this sense of belonging is
deepened and perpetuated.
7. Innovation and Creativity Are the Norms in Place
Different perspectives, creativity, and invention are expected and encouraged. "We
already tried it and it didn't work" and "What a stupid concept" are not permitted or
encouraged. The members of the team understand that the power of having a team is
that each person brings a unique perspective to the endeavor to solve a problem,
improve a process, achieve a goal, or create something new and exciting.
8. Maintains a culture of continuous improvement
The team is able to review itself on a regular basis and improve its processes, practices,
and team member interactions. The team freely discusses team standards and what
may be impeding their capacity to improve in areas such as effort, talent, and strategy.
Review meetings are held by the team to evaluate the team's process and progress in
reaching and completing the team mission. The members of the team have a firm
awareness of the five stages of team growth and what is required to advance the team
through them successfully.
9. Problems and Conflicts in Teamwork are Solved
The team has methods in place for diagnosing, assessing, and resolving teamwork issues
and conflicts that have been agreed upon. The team does not tolerate personality
conflicts or fights among its members, and team members do not take sides in
disagreements. Rather, members work together to solve problems and resolve
disagreements.

Encouraging reasonable risks in a team environment contributes to innovation and growth by allowing team members to experiment with new ideas and strategies without fear of failure or retribution. This builds trust and openness, as members feel free to communicate and advocate for new positions, which can lead to breakthroughs and advances. By fostering an environment where debate is encouraged and valued, teams become more resilient and adaptable, able to refine or abandon ideas based on merit and outcome.

Individual diversity within a team is beneficial as it brings a range of perspectives, skills, and experiences, which can enhance creativity, problem-solving, and decision-making. Diverse teams can connect with a wider audience and generate more innovative solutions. However, diversity can also be challenging due to varying communication styles, cultural misunderstandings, and different ways of approaching tasks, which may lead to conflicts or misunderstood intentions. Successfully managing this diversity involves fostering inclusive communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to understand different viewpoints, translating potential challenges into strategic advantages.

Cultivating a strong sense of belonging and responsibility is crucial for team success as it fosters a commitment to the team's objectives and a willingness to prioritize group over individual goals. This can be achieved by involving team members in the creation of team rules and relationship guidelines, which deepens their sense of belonging and accountability for the team’s decisions and actions. This shared responsibility enhances engagement, collaboration, and commitment, preventing personal conflicts from affecting group performance.

Defining team standards is important because it sets clear expectations for behavior and performance, which guides the team in achieving its objectives. Well-defined standards offer a framework for how team members interact and collaborate, preventing misunderstandings and fostering a cohesive working environment. By establishing shared values and practices, teams can improve coordination and efficiency, reduce conflicts, and maintain focus on their goals. Clear standards facilitate accountability and can be adapted over time to support continuous improvement and align with evolving team or organizational goals.

A team's understanding of its mission and objectives is crucial for its effectiveness because it ensures that all members are aligned and committed to a common goal. This clarity reinforces the expectations for the team's work, goals, accountability, and outcomes. When team members agree on an overall mission, it becomes the foundation for all endeavors and decisions, leading to coordinated efforts and preventing misalignment. Clear direction and consensus on mission and purpose drive the team’s focus and strategic decisions, enhancing overall effectiveness.

Innovation and creativity are pivotal in enhancing team performance by allowing new ideas and unique perspectives to surface, which can solve problems or improve processes in novel ways. A culture supporting innovation and creativity is cultivated by encouraging different perspectives and invention, and by prohibiting dismissive attitudes towards new ideas, such as "We already tried it and it didn't work". Teams celebrate and leverage diverse viewpoints to potentially create new and exciting outcomes. This approach not only fosters new innovations but also enhances team morale and engagement.

Effective communication within a team influences conflict resolution by promoting open, honest, and respectful exchanges. When team members feel heard and understood, it facilitates the identification and discussion of issues without escalating tensions. By encouraging clarifying questions and focusing on understanding rather than rebuttal, teams can develop a deeper understanding of differing perspectives, which is crucial in resolving disagreements productively. Respectful communication ensures conflicts are approached constructively, allowing for collaborative problem-solving rather than divisive arguments.

A team can utilize systematic methods of diagnosing, assessing, and resolving conflicts to maintain effective collaboration. Established mechanisms may include regular feedback sessions, where issues are openly discussed, and structured conflict resolution processes, such as mediative discussions led by impartial facilitators. By creating an environment where personality conflicts are not tolerated and team members are encouraged to work through disagreements collaboratively, teams can address underlying issues without taking sides, ensuring disputes are settled constructively. Clear guidelines for resolving conflicts can ensure that disagreements are addressed promptly and fairly, contributing to a healthier team dynamic.

A team can ensure continued success and development by maintaining a culture of continuous improvement and regularly reviewing its processes, practices, and interactions. This involves holding review meetings to evaluate progress towards the team mission and identifying areas for improvement in effort, talent, and strategy. By understanding the stages of team growth and what is required to advance through them, teams can make informed adjustments to methods and strategies. Team members must be open to discussing expectations and constraints, leading to ongoing enhancements in performance and collaboration.

A team's success can be significantly inhibited if its fundamental requirements are not met, as this can lead to misalignment, lack of clarity in mission and objectives, and poor collaboration. Without these essentials, team members may not have a shared understanding of goals or the direction the team is heading, which can lead to discontent and decrease in engagement. Basics like clear communication, role clarity, and trust create the foundation for effective teamwork. If these are absent, the team might face challenges in achieving their objectives, reducing its potential to fulfill its mission efficiently.
