University of Malaya

Example 8:
A study is conducted to examine the
effects of work Motivation of teachers on
School Climate and students’ academic
Performance.

Motivation has three constructs, namely

(1) Intrinsic motivation, (2) Extrinsic
motivation and (3) Social motivation. Each
with 4 indicators.

Climate has 3 indicators.

Performance is a single-indicator variable.

1
Use the Data Example 8, analyse the validity and
reliability of the indicators of 1st order and 2nd order
motivation constructs, and the effects of Motivation
on Climate and Performance.

Steps for analysis:

1. Analysing the validity and reliability of

the 1st order models of Motivation,
climate.

2. Analysing the validity of 2nd order

model (loading and p-value).

3. Analysing the effects of Motivation on

Performance and Climate.

• Validity
• Reliability
• Multi-collinearity
2nd-order motivation
• Loading (> 0.70) and p-value (p < 0.05)
Effects in the structural model:
• Motivation  Performance (beta, R2, f2)
• Motivation  Climate (beta, R2, f2)
Present the final structural model

Example 8b:
A study is conducted to examine whether
Convergent thinking and Divergent
thinking contribute to postgraduate
students’ Creativity.

In this research, Creativity is a two-order

model with three constructs: Originality,
