1 What is chemistry?

VOCABULARY
matter physical substance in general, as distinct from mind and spirit;
(in physics) that which occupies space and possesses rest
matter mass, especially as distinct from energy.

chemistry
the branch of science that deals with the identi cation of the substances of which matter is composed; the
chemistry investigation of their properties and the ways in which they interact, combine, and change; and the use of these
processes to form new substances.
science
hypothesis the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical
science and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the
testing of theories against the evidence obtained.
theory
scientific law a proposition made as a basis for reasoning, without
pure research hypothesis any assumption of its truth.
applied research a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something,
especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be
substance theory explained.
mass Scienti c laws or laws of science are statements,
based on repeated experiments or observations,
weight
scientific law that describe or predict a range of natural
phenomena. The term law has diverse usage in
model many cases across all elds of natural science.
pure research is a type of scienti c research with the aim of improving scienti c theories
for better understanding and prediction of natural or other phenomena.
applied research original investigation undertaken in order to
acquire new knowledge.
