1.1.2. Choose parameter for thermal calculate
a. Intake Air Pressure (P0)
Intake air pressure is a barometric pressure, value of P0 is depends on altitude of
sea level. If altitude increase, P0 will decrease becase the air becomes [Link] altitude
of sea level:
P0=0.1013 MN/m2

b. Intake Air Temperature (T0)

Intake air temperature is depends on average temperature where the vehicle
[Link]’s difficult for vehicle designed to operated where the range of temperature
variation during the day is large.
South Viet Nam is belong tropic region so average temperature during the day is
o
tkk=29 C for South Viet Nam, then:
T0= (tkk + 273oK) = 302oK
c. Intake Air Pressure Before Come Through Intake Manifole (Pk)
Non-Turbocharge 4-Stroke engine: Pk=P0
Turbocharge 4-Stroke engine: Pk¿P0
When testing available engines, the value of Pk was known in advance, when
design it must be in alowable range
 Low turbochargers: Pk ¿ 0.15 MN/m2
 Medium turbochargers: Pk ¿ (0.15 ÷ 0.2 ¿ MN/m2
 High turbochargers: Pk ¿ (0.2 ÷ 0.8 ¿ MN/m2
 Superios turbochager: Pk ≥0.4 MN/m2
Twin Scroll Turbocharger is high turbocharger, so:
Pk = 0.26 MN/m2
d. Intake Air Temperature Before Come Through Intake Manifold (Tk)
Turbocharge 4-Stroke engine with charge air cooler, Tk is determined:
m−1
Tk = T0 ( PPk0 ) m
−∆ T m

With:
m is average multivariate compression index of intake air, m = 1.4.
∆ Tm is the difference of intake air after come out air cooler, ∆ Tm =70oK.
Then Tk= 325.3375oK
e. Intake Air Pressure In The End Of Intake Stroke (Pa)
Intake air pressure in the end of intake stroke is always smaller than intake
pressure before come through intake valve because volume loss in intake manifold and
throttle
With turbocharge 4-Stroke engine Pa = (0.88÷ 0.98 ¿Pk.

Choose value efficiency = 0.95:

Pa= 0.247 MN/m2

f. Air Pressure Extant After Exhaust Stroke (Pr)

With gasoline engine, air pressure extant after exhaust stroke, Pk = (0.11÷0.12)
MPa
Choose Pk = 0.12 Mpa
g. Air Temperature After Exhaust Stroke (Tr)
In ICEC, usually take Tr at the end of exhaust stroke.
Value of Tr depends on many factor as compress ratio ε , air equivalence (),
speed of crankshaft,
Value of ε high then mixtur burning more expands so Tr is small.
If the angle of
In gasoline engine, value of Tr = (900÷1000)oK
Take Tr = 900oK
h. The difference of intake air after come through intake manifold
Intake air after go through turbocharge have Tk and pass intake manifold to come
to combustion chamber by intake valve, due to contact with hot engine block, it’s heated
up so the difference between after and before come through intake manifold is ∆ T.
In gasoline engine, ∆ T = (0÷20)oC
Take ∆ T = 10oC
