Concept/Focus: Introducing the recorder
Instructional Objective(s):
1. As a class, students will be able to use correct techniques on the recorder.
2. As a class, students will be able to echo back breathing into the instrument as a
class and individually.
3. Students will be able to understand the maintenance behind the recorder as a
class.
4. Students will be able to learn the notes BAG on their recorders as a class.
5. Students will be able to repeat four note phrases using the notes learned, as a class
and individually.

Procedures:
1. Introduce:
a. Teacher hands out recorders to students.
b. Explains that we will be beginning to learn the recorder, using pictures in
slideshow to show other instruments that sound similar to the recorder.
c. Visualizes how to hold the recorder.
d. Has students show how to hold the recorder while teacher goes around and
checks each student.
e. Explain how to breathe into the recorder.
f. Demonstrates how to breathe in the recorder.
g. Echo breathing into the recorder.
2. Practice
a. Explain how to play the note “B,” followed by “A,” finally by “G”.
b. Demonstrate playing each note.
c. Echo playing each of these notes as a class.
d. Improvise four note patterns including these notes individually.
3. What’s Next
a. Explain that next time we will begin to learn and play “Hot Cross Buns”
as a class
