UNIT 1 ENERGY PROJECT
Goal:
Your task is to design a poster presentation that answers the question:
Where does the energy that heats your house
come from and how is it used?
Role:
You are a journalist for the Sierra Club magazine.
Audience:
The target audience is participants at the International Conference on
Energy and Environment.
Situation:
You have been asked to present information on the best way to
heat a house to help companies and individuals become more
energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Product/Performance and Purpose:
You will create and present a tri-fold poster that includes the following
information:
Panel 1: Where does the energy come from?
Panel 2: How is the energy used in your house?
Panel 3: Why is your energy source the best? (What
are the
pros and cons of using your energy source?)
Standards & Criteria for Success:
Your product must include:
o A description of your energy source
A clear analysis of the pros and cons of using this source of
energy
o Information on how energy is produced in a power plant and how
it gets to a house.
A diagram and written explanation of the transformations
of energy involved, begin with the original potential
energy.
A statement on how the Law of Conservation of Energy is
demonstrated at each step until the energy reaches the
house.
o Explanation of how the energy is used to heat the house
Diagram and description of the type of heating unit used
Explanation of the types of heat transfers involved
Other criteria:
o Your poster must be aesthetically pleasing
(pictures, arrangement, easy to read, etc.)
At least 20 point font on anything typed
Titles and headings must be visible and relevant
o Each group member must participate in the making of the poster
o Bibliography required in APA format (see your planbooks)
No cutting and pasting
Pictures must also be referenced
