MONDAY
We attended the flag ceremony with the Ruralites today! It’s
early but I am excited for some reason. When my co-STs and I
arrived at UPRHS, we received a message that we should
prepare a short message to say when we introduce ourselves in
front of the students. I didn’t know what to say. I was afraid that
I might say something long because of my excitement.
The flag ceremony started and I am once again amazed at how
they do their flag ceremony. Everyone sings and recites. I also
noticed how everyone in the school was introduced - all the
grade 7 students, the transferees, the teaching and non-
teaching staff, and the student teachers. It was adorable!
At the time I am introducing myself to the students, I feel
delighted. As I have mentioned 9 Acacia and 9 Mahogany as the
sections that I will be handling, I heard a cheer, and that made
me smile. It also made me forget that we had to give a short
message. At that moment, I was just excited to get to know 9
Acacia and 9 Mahogany and spend time with them inside the
classroom.
TUESDAY
Today, I observed Sir Alecci doing another assessment with 9
Mahogany and 9 Acacia, but this time, they were in the
classroom. The class was quiet the whole period since they were
answering their Mastery Drill 1.1.
WEDNESDAY
Another day, another observation. Today, I observed Mahogany
twice and Acacia once. I got to know some of them when the
other UPRHS teachers called them. I also get how they act as a
class which helps me to know how I am going to approach them
during my class. It is tiring for me since I have to go back and
forth from UPLB Campus to UPRHS to attend my afternoon
class. But, I find my day productive.
Aside from my observation, I did my 1st solo teaching dry-run
with Sir Alecci. It is helpful for me since I will be receiving
comments and points for improvement before I start teaching
the class.
THURSDAY
This is the day! This marks my 1st Solo Teaching in Rural. I was
feeling confident before the class as I was manifesting good
luck. I first started teaching 9 Acacia about Relations and
Functions. I was having fun teaching. The students showed that
they were eager to get to know me and some of them
approached me to say hi. I lost track of time while doing the
activity. Sadly, I did not finish teaching the lesson. To make up
for it, I have uploaded the slides to their Google Classroom.
Sir Alecci has told me some things to improve so I can apply
them to my next class. He also gave some suggestions. I
followed them and I did better than my first class. I was able to
cover more of the lesson. One of the students even told me that
she enjoyed the activity since I used Bini.
However, I know that there are lots of things I have to improve
as Sir Alecci has pointed out the volume of my voice, the lapses
in my presentation, my time budgeting, and my content
mastery.
I felt disappointed with myself but I will do better next time. I
will keep on improving myself.
For now, I will follow Sir Alecci’s advice to make up for my
lapses and not compromise the learning experience of the
students.
After our post-consultation, Sir Alecci handed me the Mastery
Drill answered by Mahogany, Acacia, and Banuyo. These are my
first checkables for my constructive work.
FRIDAY
As I was checking the student’s MD 1.1, I realized that this is
another way of knowing them. I get to know which part they
find confusing or hard, which part they excel at, who among
them excels in their class, and who among them needs help in
studying the lesson.
