MY MAJOR TAKEAWAYS FROM THE ACTIVITY

Through virtual meeting, the Philippine Normal University collaborated with Teacher
Education Council on the Orientation of Teacher Education Institutions on the MATATAG
Curriculum.
The opening remarks by Dr. Archie B. Resos, Social Studies Teachers' Representative
in Teacher Education Council said that "It is imperative that through the symposium,
relevant and meaningful issues can be address through the present trends and needs in
teacher education on how are educators can adapt to the changing educational
landscape, integrating innovative teaching methodologies, leveraging technology, and
responding to the diverse needs of learners in our communities." The primary goal is to
involve the teachers in being pro-active and be responsive to the ever evolving
demands of the teaching profession.
MATATAG Agenda has four critical components:
MAke the curriculum relevant to produce competent and job ready, active, and
responsible citizens;
TAke steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services;
TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education and a
positive learning environment; and
Give support to teachers to teach better.

Part 1 of the discussion are the Features of Matatag Curriculum, Science of Learning,
and Collaborative Expertise Practices from Dr. Brando C. Palomar, Senior Program
Manager in Research Institute for Teacher Quality. He discussed about Enhanced Basic
Education Program (K-12) that is a response to local and global community needs and
demands through its mission to strengthen the values, strong sense of nationalism,
equip filipino learners, etc. He also shared the overview of the lesson exemplar design
in the pilot implementation that consists of (a) activating prior knowledge (b) establishing
lesson purpose (c) developing and deepening understanding (d) making generalization
(e) evaluating learning (f) teacher's remarks and (g) reflection.
In conclusion, I have learned and put in mind that matatag curriculum focuses on the
foundational skills, decongested curriculum, balance cognitive demands, clear
articulation of 21st century skills, reduced learning areas, intensified values education
and strengthened peace education and on a par with international standards.
