Task: You have been asked to give a talk to your peers giving advice about using technology.

You should include:

• the different types of technology
• the advantages of using technology
• the disadvantages of using technology.

Think carefully about the purpose of your talk and the audience for whom it is intended.

Answer:

A very good morning everyone,

Imagine a world without smartphones, computers, or the internet—where every task takes longer, and
communicating with someone across the world takes weeks instead of seconds. Sounds impossible, isn’t it? Well,
Technology has become so deeply ingrained in our daily lives that it’s hard to picture life without it. I am Sheikh
Mohammad Ishtiak, and I’m a business grad at the University of Asia Pacific, Bangladesh and the author of
“Automation in Business” and today, I’m here to talk about how technology influences our lives, its various types, its
advantages, and some of the challenges that come with it.

Let’s begin by looking at the different types of technology. We use three major categories: communication
technology, information technology, and entertainment technology. Communication technologies, like smartphones,
social media, and messaging apps, have made it incredibly easy to connect with others instantly, regardless of
location. Information technologies, which include computers, data systems, and the internet, help us process and
share vast amounts of knowledge. Finally, entertainment technologies—gaming consoles, streaming platforms, and
virtual reality—offer new ways to enjoy our free time and engage in creative experiences.

Now, let’s talk about the advantages of using technology. The first advantage is improved communication.
Technology has shrunk the world by making it easier to communicate instantly with people around the globe. For
example, video calls and instant messaging allow us to stay connected with friends, family, and colleagues no matter
where they are.

Another advantage is access to information and education. Thanks to the internet, we have endless information at
our fingertips. You can access free online courses, watch educational videos, or read articles on nearly any topic
imaginable. This has changed the way we learn, making education more accessible to everyone.

Additionally, technology has made tasks far more efficient. Whether it’s a student researching for a project or a
business automating processes, technology saves time. Tools like word processors, spreadsheets, and project
management apps help us accomplish more in less time, allowing us to focus on creative and critical tasks.

However, technology isn’t without its drawbacks. One major disadvantage is our increasing dependence on it. Think
about how reliant we’ve become on the internet and smartphones. When the Wi-Fi goes down or a system crashes,
everything grinds to a halt, reminding us of how vulnerable we are to technical failures.

Another significant concern is distraction. Social media, video games, and other forms of online entertainment can
easily lead to procrastination, especially for students. While designed for enjoyment, they can also become
addictive, taking time away from more productive or meaningful activities.

Lastly, there’s the issue of privacy and security. With so much of our personal information stored online, from
banking details to social media profiles, we are constantly at risk of data breaches and hacking. Using technology
comes with the responsibility of protecting our private information.

In sum up, technology has changed our lives in countless ways, making communication easier, learning more
accessible, and daily tasks more efficient. However, we must remain aware of its challenges, such as dependence,
distraction, and security risks. It’s crucial for us to find a balance—enjoying the benefits of technology while using it
responsibly.

As I am at the end of my talk, I hope we all have learned somethings new today and will work on it in our lives,

Thanks a ton for your kind patience and bearing with me till the end.
