A STUDY OF MIGRATION FROM BANGLADESH TO ASSAM, INDIA AND ITS
IMPACT- BY MADHUMITA SHARMA - The author of the thesis on migration
from Bangladesh to Assam utilized a mixed methods approach, integrating
both quantitative and qualitative research techniques to comprehensively
understand the migration phenomenon. Quantitative research involved
structured surveys in selected areas of Assam, collecting data on
demographics, reasons for migration, and socio-economic status. These
surveys used closed-ended questions for statistical analysis and incorporated
secondary data from government census reports to examine migration trends
over time.
Qualitatively, the author conducted semi-structured interviews with migrants
and key stakeholders, allowing for in-depth exploration of personal
experiences and perceptions. Focus group discussions (FGDs) provided
collective insights on shared experiences, while field observations enriched the
understanding of migrants' living conditions. Purposive sampling was
employed to select relevant study areas and respondents, focusing on their
geographical proximity to the Bangladesh border.
For data analysis, statistical methods were applied to the quantitative data,
while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis to identify patterns
reflecting migrant experiences. The integration of findings from both
approaches offered a comprehensive view of migration dynamics, and
triangulation enhanced the research's credibility by validating findings through
multiple data sources. This methodology serves as a valuable reference for
future studies on migration and related social phenomena.
