1. Changes in Ha Noi
1.1. The changes
There have been many notable changes in my neighborhood
recently:
- The first major change that must be mentioned is that near
my secondary school there is a tunnel under construction.
The city has been carrying out this tunnel construction
project for over a year now to solve the traffic congestion
that often occurs in this area. Once the tunnel is completed,
it will help solve the problem that this area has often
encountered for many years.

- Another major change is the appearance of a new form of

transportation. The means that I am talking about here is the
elevated railway. This type of transportation has only
appeared in Hanoi in recent years and is very popular with
the people.

1.2. Things that caused them

- The tunnel currently under construction near my secondary
school is called Kim Dong underpass. The tunnel was built
more than a year ago under the direction of the city. The
purpose of building this tunnel is to reduce traffic congestion
during rush hour in this area. At the same time, through this
tunnel, vehicles can also go to other areas faster without
worrying about traffic congestion. The tunnel currently under

- The elevated railway project is a long-term project of Hanoi

city. The first elevated railway to be completed in 2020 is the
Cat Linh-Ha Dong railway. The project took nearly 10 years to
complete. This is a project of the city with foreign
investment. This project was built to diversify the
transportation system in Vietnam. The project is also
expected to help city residents have more options when
traveling and reduce traffic congestion. Currently, there is an
additional Nhon elevated railway that has been open to
visitors for more than a month.

1.3. Effects
1.3.1. Kim Dong tunnel
- Positive: Currently, the tunnel construction is still in progress,
so we have not seen many positive aspects of it, but can
only look forward to the future.

- Negative:
 The construction process takes a lot of time
 Causing traffic jams during rush hour

1.3.2. Elevated railway

- Positive:
 Since its operation, the elevated railway system has made
people's travel much more convenient.
 Using the elevated railway system helps reduce air
pollution. When taking the train, we do not have to worry
about being late because the train moves very fast and of
course there is no road closure.
 In rainy or sunny weather, vehicles will encounter many
difficulties. But we will not have to worry about traveling
by train.
 The ticket price for each trip is also very affordable.

- Negative: On the other hand, this transport system still has

many limitations.
 Crowded during peak hours
 Speed slows down when crowded
 Still not too popular in Vietnam
Because this train system is new and currently there are
very few routes that the train runs through. Currently,
only 2 train routes, Cat Linh - Ha Dong and Nhon, are in
operation. There are still a number of other train routes
under construction and are expected to be completed in
2040. City residents will have to wait a long time to have
a convenient and fast means of transport.
