Dress Code Policy
1. AIM
This policy has been designed to inform staff of the dress code and standards of
appearance expected whist working at Gwendolen House Nursery.
2. POLICY
All staff are expected to look professional and neat throughout the working week.
The staff uniform is:
1. black trousers or skirts;
2. a white top or nursery top provided to you;
3. flat black shoes and socks (e.g. no boots or heeled shoes). Sports shoes
(trainers) are permitted provided they are black;
4. hair must be tied back if shoulder length or longer;
5. discreet jewellery (i.e. wedding/engagement rings/simple necklaces);
6. no visible tattoos;
7. no visible body piercing other than stud earrings;
8. no long nails or nail varnish (other than) of a neutral colour.
9. No ripped clothes
Staff will be expected to use their discretion and be prepared to dress and appear as
appropriate in line with a professional atmosphere. Remember that you represent the
nursery during working hours.
As a guideline, inappropriate attire includes:
• Denim of any colour (jeans, shirts, dresses or skirts);
• Any cardigan other than the nursery top provided to you;
• Track suit bottoms or combat trousers;
• Leggings which are too revealing.
• Trousers with a short waist which revel underwear or “bum cleavage”;
• Cropped or "spaghetti strap" tops;
• Anything which is too revealing (low cut tops, short skirts, flimsy material etc.);
• Flip-flops of any type or heavy work boots;

• Sportswear, or lycra shorts;
• Any type of shoes where the toes are not covered (for health & safety reasons, in
case you drop anything on your feet) or where there is a risk of tripping over
when running.
Your Line Manager will be responsible for ensuring that this Policy is adhered to and
may send you home with pay deducted if you are inappropriately dressed.
