● Geotechnical Challenges
Issue: Soil conditions may vary from different areas throughout the construction of the
flood protection wall project. And different soil conditions need specific construction
techniques or reinforcement to ensure stability.
Management: Conduct a comprehensive geotechnical survey in the area before the
construction to assess the soil conditions and identify possible hazards.
● Foundation Issues
Issue: Ensuring a stable and strong foundation is crucial for the overall strength of the
wall. Soft or unstable ground conditions may require specialized foundation design or
ground improvement techniques.
Management: Tailor foundation design to suit site-specific soil conditions or employ
ground improvement techniques such as soil stabilization or compaction.
● Environmental Impact
Issue: Flood control projects can inadvertently harm the environment. Construction
activities may disrupt the ecosystem in the area and affect wildlife habitats.
Management: Conduct thorough environmental impact assessments (EIAs) before
project initiation. Implement mitigation measures such as reforestation. Comply and
follow the City’s Environmental Regulations.
● Maintenance Challenges
Issue: Over time, flood control structures deteriorate due to weather, erosion, and wear.
Management: Conduct regular maintenance and apply for regular local government
funds for the regular maintenance on the said project.
